Responsibilities You will assist the journey worker with common and typical tasks of the trade. You will perform more difficult work under close supervision. You will use basic hand and power tools. You will follow written and verbal instructions. You will follow established safety procedures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Minimum qualifications include knowledge of using basic hand and power tools, following written and verbal instructions, following established safety procedures and ability to wear personal protective equipment, basic knowledge of industrial operations Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is hiring for the following trades. 1. Shop 11 Shipfitter- Lays out, fabricates, installs, removes, and repairs structural parts on Naval ships and support equipment in accordance with blueprints. Utilizes carpentry principles while working with welders to assemble various types of metal plates, beams, angles, and pipes. 2. Shop 17 Sheet Metal Mechanic- Manufactures, installs, repairs, and modifies complex ventilation systems, furniture, light gage bulkheads, lockers, and doors on submarines, surface craft, and in the shop. 3. Shop 26 Welder- Joins and cuts all types of industrial and marine metals using complex welding and thermal cutting processes during the overhaul, repair, and modernization of submarines and surface craft. 4. Shop 31 Machinist- Manufacture and/or refurbish ship parts/components using machinery such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, drilling presses, and computer numerical controlled machines. 5. Shop 31 Rubber Worker- Assist in the Manufacturing of the various rubber products to support repairs on US Navy Vessels. Work involves but is not limited to, preparing uncured rubber stock to manufacture Molded rubber products, by injection or transfer molding, using hydraulic presses/steam autoclaves for dry and wet steam curing, preparing/measuring/cutting and splicing various pre-formed rubber gasket or O-Ring strips of different diameters to required specifications and cleans and prepares components for application of plastic coat covering. 6. Shop 38 Marine Machinery- Involve the use of the latest technology to install, remove, test, overhaul, and repair the main propulsion machinery, pumps, valves, steam turbines, engines, pumps, and propeller shafts on submarines and surface craft. 7. Shop 51 Electrician- Assist journey level Electrician Mechanics in removal/install, alignment, repair, overhaul, and testing a variety of ships components that include ship's main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, deck machinery, ordnance machinery, hydraulic machinery, fluid systems, laundry, galley, and machine shop equipment. Install, maintain and remove temporary electrical and casualty control systems. 8. Shop 52 Electronics Measurement Equipment Mechanic- Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, modifies, tests, aligns, measures, and calibrates complex electrical/electronic/electro-mechanical/physical-dimensional/ mechanical test instruments and equipment. 9. Shop 67 Electronics- Assist journey level Electronics Mechanics in the removal, troubleshooting, repair, modification, installation, testing and calibration of shipboard electronic equipment, components and testing. Systems include communications, sonar, fire control, steering/diving, imaging/optical, and power distribution. 10. Shop 06 Toolroom- Provides appropriate and quality tools to allow workers to safely, efficiently, and effectively accomplish assigned tasks. Performs periodic maintenance, overhauls, troubleshoots, repairs, and tests handheld and portable power tools and mechanical/electrical equipment. 11. Shop 06 Electrician - Constructs, removes/installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs various electrical wiring systems and components, electrical controls, electrically-operated equipment or instruments, and light and heavy electrical machinery. Installs, maintains, and removes temporary electrical and casualty control systems. 12. Shop 06 Electronic Industrial Control - Executes a comprehensive equipment maintenance program to ensure support needs are continuously met. Uses the latest technology to troubleshoot, repair, align, and test Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) equipment throughout the shipyard such as mills, lathes, electric discharge machines, and water jet cutting machines. 13. Shop 06 Production Machinery - Executes a comprehensive equipment maintenance program to ensure support needs are continuously met. Performs periodic maintenance, installs, and removes shop equipment. 14. Shop 56 Air Conditioning- Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs air conditioning and refrigeration systems aboard submarines, surface crafts, and ashore to include, but not limited to chillers, refrigeration plants, dehumidifiers, and dehydrators. Fabricates temporary cooling manifolds to support repairs of shipboard systems. 15. Shop 56 Pipefitter - Remove, repair, install, test/flush, and silver braze piping to all propulsion, auxiliary, and weapons systems aboard submarines and surface craft. Manufacture, install, repair, maintain, and remove all ship-to-shore temporary piping services. 16. Shop 57 Insulator - Measures, fabricates, removes, and installs insulation materials on steam turbines, distillation plants, refrigeration plants, ventilation ducts, and other submarine or surface craft piping and component systems to prevent heat loss, minimize condensation, and protect personnel from extreme temperatures. 17. Shop 64 Shipwright- Install, maintain, modify and remove all staging associated with ship work. Use transits and levels to establish working lines and reference points. Check vessel alignment during docking evolution. Construct docking blocks and shoring. 18. Shop 64 Fabric Worker - Plans, designs, lays out, constructs, and installs containments using clear PVC sheeting, Herculite, and other flexible materials. Reupholsters furniture, manufactures tool bags, banners, tents, leather articles, items of canvas, Naugahyde, Herculite, and linen. 19. Shop 64 Plastic Fabricator - Removes, lays out, manufactures, and reinstalls hull insulation. Performs Portsmouth plug encapsulation and pre-pots using polyurethane. Applies Plastisol coating to various metal items. Applies rubber to various items. 20. Shop 71 Painter- Prepare surfaces for paints by sandblasting, and sanding. Apply paints, powder coating, or flame spray to preserve metal, wood, or sheet metal surfaces using paint brushes, spray pumps, and/or rollers. 21. Shop 99 Electrician (Temporary Service)- Construct, remove/install, test, troubleshoot, maintain and repair various electrical wiring systems and components, electrical controls, electrically operated equipment or instruments; light and heavy electrical machinery. Install, maintain and remove temporary electrical and casualty control systems. 22. Shop 99 Sheet Metal (Temporary Service) - Manufactures, installs, repairs, and modifies complex ventilation systems, furniture, light gage bulkheads, lockers, and doors on submarines, surface craft, and in the shop. Removes, installs, maintains, and certifies temporary environmental control ventilation systems. 23. Shop 99 Pipefitter (Temporary Service) - Removes, repairs, installs, tests/flushes, and silver brazes piping on propulsion, auxiliary, and weapons systems aboard submarines and surface craft. Manufactures, installs, repairs, maintains, and removes all ship-to-shore temporary piping services. 24. Shop 99 Industrial Equipment Mechanic- Assist journey level Industrial Equipment Mechanics with the overhauls, operating repairs, operational maintenance, troubleshooting and security checks on stationary equipment on various graving docks, floating docks, and caissons to include various types of pumps, flooding gates, flooding valves, capstans, winches, motors located dockside or afloat and other equipment needed to provide docking services. 25. Shop 72 Rigger- Selects, installs, and uses cables, ropes, and other weight handling gear to lift, move, and position heavy loads in crane and critical rigging operations. Uses complex multi-point suspension techniques to maneuver over, under, and around obstacles by tilting, dipping, and turning suspended loads.
