Job Description:
**Position Summary:** Provides operational oversight, professional guidance, and direction to the Care Transitions team, ensuring services are provided efficiently and effectively. Regularly reviews and revises, as necessary, relevant standards and ensures services performed comply with all hospital, system, and regulatory agency standards. Coordinates provision of services with other nursing and medical functions and serves as a technical resource for departmental personnel. As an expert in the assigned area serves as a resource person to staff and physicians.
Duties/Responsibilities:
+ The role of the IR RN is to deliver a continued level of quality nursing care to patients who will utilize the services of Interventional Radiology, providing care of patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures
+ Pre, post and intra procedural care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room populations
+ The IR RN utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice as a professional registered nurse and provides direct nursing care to patients and family
+ Assists Interventional Radiologist and APP during procedures
+ Works in collaboration with IR team, including IR technologists, MAs, Physicians, APPs, operational leadership, and other hospital colleagues in relation to procedures and daily workflows
+ The radiology nurse will work collaboratively with respect to the implementation of orders as they are related to direct patient care
+ Gathers pertinent objective and subjective data using all available resources
+ Assures, as appropriate, that a patient assessment and plan of care is in place
+ Provides direct patient care as specified by nursing directives or indications of treatments specified for maintaining continual patient care
+ Informs and prepares patients for special procedure exams or other exams as specified in department policies or procedures
+ The radiology nurse reports directly to the Nursing Department and to the Director of Radiology and Cardiology in respect to operational workflows
+ Training, evaluation and competencies for this role are overseen by a Nurse Leader to the department
+ Aware of schedules so that there is a nurse provider for the needs of all procedural patients
+ Assists, monitors, and cares for patient emergencies
+ Administers medications as determined necessary by the Interventional Radiologist, APP, assuring that proper pre-medication history has been obtained, documented
+ Performs urinary catheterization when necessary
+ Performs patient preparation procedures
+ Applies or changes dressings or special appliances required
+ Proficient in IV placement and VAD access (ports, central lines, PICC)
+ Maintains the ability and familiarity in the performance of the use of all special hospital equipment such as monitors infusion pumps, pacemakers, oxygen equipment, respirators, etc.
+ Reports the need of repairs or preventive maintenance to the director of Radiology and Cardiology
+ Assures cleanliness of equipment by following hospital policy
+ Float throughout the facility, to meet the needs of the hospital if necessary
+ Demonstrates role of nurse as teacher
+ Orients and Mentors new staff members
+ Moderate sedation of a patient (airway management)
+ Supporting anesthesia for GA cases
+ Maintains patient safety during all types of Interventional procedures
+ Performs pre and post procedure to ensure the patients care is seamless
+ Document care in the EMR (EPIC experience a plus)
+ Willingness to embrace change

+ Complies with all BID-Plymouth Policies and procedures

+ Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgment
+ Responsible for systematically assessing the health care needs of individuals or groups and for the formulation of a care plan, its implementation and evaluation
+ Demonstrates the ability for decision making by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience in caring for patients
+ Coordinates the care of patients and directs assistive personnel in order to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely, patient-centered care
+ Demonstrates awareness of environmental forces on health care of patients and their families
+ Demonstrates the ability to identify resources necessary to implement the plan of care
+ Works in a collegial and collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families
+ Develops relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect
+ Communicates effectively in the exchange of information
+ Demonstrate the ability to act as a patient advocate
+ Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit-based competencies
+ Identifies needs for continued growth and development in conjunction with the unit-based educator or clinical nurse specialist
+ Participates in activities that contribute to professional development of self
+ May participate in quality improvement activities
+ Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own nursing practice and patient safety
+ Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations
+ May have a weekend and holiday rotation

Education/Experience Required:
+ Experience as an Interventional Radiology, procedural, Emergency Room, and or ICU/CCU Nurse
+ Experience as a radiology nurse in a similar setting is preferred
+ Graduate of accredited school of nursing
Registration/Certification:
+ Current RN Massachusetts License.
+ Current BLS, ACLS
+ PALS Preferred
Physical/Environmental Requirements
This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
Pay Range:
$36.41 - $74.59
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
