    Summary Statement

    Make a splash this summer with Boise Parks and Recreation! As a Swim Team Coach, you’ll lead and inspire summer swim teams, helping athletes develop skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun and supportive environment. This temporary position is based at one of the City’s outdoor pool facilities and is open to applicants 19 years of age and older. If you love working with athletes, enjoy the water, and want a rewarding way to spend your summer, this is the perfect opportunity!

    Essential Functions

    + Coaches individual swimmers on various styles and racing techniques.

    + Creates practice plans for swimmers, meet entries, or other duties.

    + Attends all swim meets including championship meet.

    + Responsible for communication with swimmers, parents, and volunteers.

    + Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

    Requirements

    Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

    Knowledge of:

    + Competitive swimming skills and techniques.

    + Swim meet rules and regulations.

    Ability to:

    + Interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner

    + Display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations

    + Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance

    + Complete assignments in a timely fashion;; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations

    + Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

    + Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

    Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

    + One year of experience coaching a swim program.

    + Current Lifeguard Certification.

    + American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.

    Licensing And Other Requirements

    + Valid State Issued Driver's License

    + American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certification within 30 days of hire date

    Special Requirements

    Applicants must be able to pass:

    + City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

    + Driving Record Check

    + Drug Free Workplace:

    + In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

    + This position is required to perform emergency medical, lifesaving, and/or fire suppression activities.

    Physical Efforts

    The noise level is frequently moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

    Working Environment

    + The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.

    + This position works: Early weekday mornings, evenings, and weekends.

     

    19-Hour Temporary

     

    All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

     

    4-Month Temporary

     

    All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

     

    8-Month Seasonal

     

    In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

     

    9-Month Temporary

     

    In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
