The Engine Shop Trainee is responsible for learning and working under the direct mentorship of an assigned Senior Service Technician.

THIS POSITION TYPICALLY WORKS: 4,10-HOUR SHIFTS

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

+ Requires general knowledge of diesel or gas engines, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic systems and components.

+ Assist a Senior Technician in completing assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate times and re-do metric.

+ Work safely and follow all WCAT safety policies and procedures.

+ Assist a Senior Technician in completing related paperwork and access databases required to complete job (work order, parts order, JSA, DBS, SIMS, SIS web, STW) accurately and timely.

+ Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.

+ Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies with supervision from a Senior Shop Technician.

+ Assist a Senior Service Technician in providing accurate quotes and pricing estimates to the customer.

+ Ride train alongside a Senior Service Technician with all aspects of the task at hand daily.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

+ General knowledge of basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, laptops, diagnostic software and cranes and rigging equipment.

+ Willingness to accept instruction and guidance from a Senior Service Technician.

+ Pass administered Can Test and Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test Prior to acceptance for this position.

+ Excellent communication skills.

+ Team-oriented mentality.

+ school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training.

+ Successfully complete Work steps assessment.

+ Ability to certify for operating a forklift and/or manlift.

+ May be required to complete DOT physical.

+ May require MSHA certification.

The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration.

Required travel up to 5%.
