The Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to join our Controllership team in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, month end close tasks, financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This highly visible hybrid position requires close collaboration with finance, accounting, engineering, and other corporate and accounting functions.

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:

* Oversee and coordinate month-end close:

* Journal entry preparation, review, and posting.

* Account Reconciliation preparation, review, and approval.

* Ensure proper financial cut-offs in accordance with Divisional guidelines.

* Provide guidance and support to the FP&A team.

* Prepare P&L flux comments by collaborating with cross-functional teams and present to management and auditors.

* Assist with the implementation of new accounting policies and review exceptions.

* Work closely with Financial Compliance, maintain documentation, and perform various SOX controls.

* Assist in audit process through the preparation of schedules and communications with internal and external auditors.

* Work closely with FP&A, Corporate engineering team, Controllership teams, and Accounting Ops to improve current processes and implement changes.

* Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

* Drive initiatives and projects related to standardization, process improvements, integration, automation, and control to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.

* Perform ad hoc analysis and other duties as assigned by management.

* Work well in a dynamic environment under tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting, MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred.

* 6+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

* Knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.

* SAP, HFM, Hyperion, JD Edwards, Essbase systems, and Blackline account reconciliation experiences preferred.

* Proficiency in Microsoft tools with advanced Excel skills is required.

* Experience with Power BI and Alteryx are a plus.

* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* Effective communication and people skills.
