    Job Summary:

    General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

     

    The System Integration Project Engineer supports the development and integration of hardware and software capabilities onto Unmanned Aircraft Systems and serves as a technical bridge between systems engineering, software development, system test, and program teams. This position contributes to the definition and integration of system requirements, interfaces, and system capabilities across the design, integration, test, and delivery lifecycle, ensuring complex systems are delivered in alignment with technical constraints, program requirements, and schedules.

     

    This role is well suited for an engineer with prior software development experience who is interested in expanding into system integration and technical product leadership, with increased ownership of system-level capabilities and interfaces, while remaining closely engaged with engineering execution and mission outcomes.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Translate operational, customer, and stakeholder needs into clear technical requirements and acceptance or success criteria

    + Support System Engineering requirements development, traceability, and change management activities

    + Support the integration of software capabilities for avionics, datalinks, and ground control systems for Unmanned Aircraft Systems

    + Assist in the definition, documentation, and management of system-level interfaces, data flows, and integration assumptions

    + Participate in system architecture discussions, trade studies, and integration planning efforts

    + Support software development activities including capability, feature, and issue backlog refinement, planning, and release coordination from a system perspective

    + Coordinate with cross-functional teams such as project engineering, software, systems, test, operations, and program teams to ensure alignment across development and integration activities

    + Track integration risks, technical issues, and dependencies; support issue resolution across teams

    + Assist with system integration testing, verification, and validation planning and execution

    + Support and coordinate system-level issue troubleshooting activities, ensuring timely resolution based on criticality and assigned area by applying standard engineering and scientific principles

    + Develop and maintain technical documentation and technical presentations, including interface definitions, integration plans, and system diagrams, as required

    + Communicate technical status, risks, and recommendations to engineering leadership and program stakeholders

    + May represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects

    + Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information

    + Performs other duties as assigned

    Job Qualifications:

    + Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in Computer Science, engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education. (can’t be changed)

    + Relevant experience in software engineering, systems engineering, system integration, or a related technical role

    + Experience working with cross-disciplinary engineering teams, including software, systems, test, and operations, as well as interfacing with external stakeholders or customers

    + Demonstrated understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory, with the ability to apply them broadly across system-level and integration-focused problem spaces

    + Ability to rapidly learn and apply new technical concepts in an evolving environment and to determine appropriate technical approaches at the task level, or with guidance, at the project or system level

    + Experience organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating work across multiple tasks, interfaces, or workflows to support program execution and integration objectives

    + Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical documentation and present technical information to diverse audiences

    + Proficiency with standard engineering and productivity tools, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment

    + Ability to perform complex technical tasks within a primary engineering discipline and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers on routine or semi-routine activities

    + Able to work extended hours as required.

    + A Professional Engineering License is desirable.

    + Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
