The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a **_Sr. Physician Assistant_** experienced in emergency medicine to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team located at Howard County General Hospital. Howard County General Hospital is a proud member of Johns Hopkins Medicine and is conveniently located between Baltimore and Washington D.C in Columbia, MD. This position will work under the supervision of a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
+ Perform a comprehensive, accurate history and physical including chief complaint, presenting signs and symptoms, past medical history, and interval history. Recognize abnormal and significant findings and discuss with attending physician as appropriate.
+ Order diagnostics and interpret abnormal findings.
+ Discuss or staff cases with attending physician when appropriate per department standards based on acuity or venue.
+ Initiate Basic/Advanced life support in response to emergency situations.
+ Maintain technical proficiency with approved procedures including suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care.
+ Initiate and prescribe medications.
+ Complete all aspects of medical documentation in accordance with department standards.
+ Arrange consultations and referrals when needed.
+ Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on department protocols, operations, research, and procedures providing input and feedback.
+ Remain proficient in the utilization of commonly used clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines.
+ Remain abreast of new treatment modalities and technologies within the field of emergency medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.
+ Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
+ Minimum of 3 year's experience in related clinical area and obtained proficiency in area of specialty.
+ Residency or fellowship programs in area of specialization may substitute for some experience.
+ Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Five years in Emergency Medicine.
_**Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date**_

Starting Salary Range: $44.82 - $78.41 HRLY (36,400 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
