WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR TRAINEE*
Washington County Sewer District has an anticipated vacancy for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee*. This position is a trainee position involving responsibility for learning the duties and routines in the operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plant. This position allows the candidate to gain the knowledge in order to satisfactorily complete the training and experience regulations of the Department of Environmental Conservation for a certificate appropriate to the plant.
The work is performed under the immediate supervision of a qualified operator. Undergoes on-the-job training to become qualified as an operator of a sewage treatment plant; assists in the operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plant. Does related work as required.
*This is a Civil Service Competitive position. Provisional appointee must take a
future-dated exam when announced and be reachable on the resulting Eligible List for permanent appointment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A) Possession of an associate degree; OR
B) Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and one (1) year of full-time paid experience in a skilled mechanical trade such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical repairs, machinery, or operation of heavy equipment.

If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found on the Internet at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINEE APPOINTMENTS:
Upon eligibility for a Grade 2A certificate issued under the provisions of the New York State Sanitary code, candidate must successfully complete required Grade 2A certification training courses within six (6) months of being eligible for the Grade 2A certificate. Candidate must also successfully pass the Grade 2A exam within two attempts. Exams will be scheduled by the Sewer District. Appointment may be terminated if trainee does not succeed in obtaining certification within the time stated above (Rule XV of the Washington County Civil Service Rules).
RATE OF PAY: $25.45/hour
