Description & Requirements
We are seeking a visionary Head of Podcasts to lead and grow our audio and video podcast portfolio across platforms. This role will define the editorial, creative, and strategic direction of our podcast slate, with a strong emphasis on audio/video forward formats designed for on-platform consumption, traditional audio distribution, social platforms, and more.
The ideal candidate is a newsroom leader and innovator who understands how news, analysis, and storytelling translate to audio/visual environments, and who can scale franchises, talent, and audiences in a competitive, fast-moving media landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
+ Set the overall vision and strategy for podcasts across audio and video, aligned with the company’s broader editorial and growth goals.
+ Identify and launch new podcast franchises with strong potential for audio video-native storytelling, audience growth, and brand impact.
+ Partner with senior editorial, audio, video, product, and audience teams to ensure podcasts are integrated into the wider newsroom ecosystem.
Editorial & Creative Direction
+ Oversee editorial standards, tone, and storytelling approach across all podcast content.
+ Champion formats that work with visually—including interviews, roundtables, explainers, and live or semi-live shows.
+ Guide hosts, producers, and editors in developing on-air presence, pacing, and compelling narratives for multi-platform audiences.
+ Ensure content meets the highest standards of journalistic integrity, accuracy, and originality.
Video & Production Excellence
+ Lead the evolution from audio to video podcast production
+ Establish best practices for repackaging long-form podcasts into short-form video.
+ Evaluate and adopt new production tools and technologies to improve efficiency and creative quality.
Team Management & Talent Development
+ Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of podcast producers, editors, hosts, and journalists.
+ Recruit and develop on-air talent and production team with strong editorial judgment.
+ Foster a collaborative culture that bridges audio, video, and newsroom teams.
Audience Growth & Performance
+ Use data and audience insights to inform programming decisions, optimize formats, and drive growth.
+ Work closely with audience development and social teams to maximize reach, engagement, and loyalty.
+ Track performance across platforms and regularly report on impact, growth, and opportunities.
Commercial & Partnerships (as applicable)
+ Collaborate with revenue, marketing, and partnerships teams on sponsorships, branded content, and distribution deals.
+ Ensure podcasts are designed with monetization and scalability in mind without compromising editorial integrity.
Qualifications
+ Experience in journalism, podcasts, video, or digital media, with significant leadership experience.
+ Proven track record of creating and growing successful podcast franchises.
+ Deep understanding of news, current affairs, and explanatory journalism.
+ Hands-on experience with audio/video production workflows and platforms.
+ Strong editorial judgment, leadership skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Data-literate, audience-focused, and comfortable making decisions informed by performance metrics.
+ Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across editorial, product, and business teams.
Preferred Experience
+ Experience leading podcasts at a major news organization or media brand.
+ Familiarity with live or live-to-tape formats.
+ Experience scaling shows internationally or across multiple platforms.
Salary Range = 170000 - 195000 USD Annually + Benefits + Bonus
The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
