    This position is responsible for conducting foreign and endemic animal disease investigations, responding to control disease outbreaks, inspecting domestic animal premises to verify compliance with Minnesota law, improving animal disease traceability, collecting samples for diagnostic testing, performing regulated disease testing, and educating clientele.

     

    Work includes, but is not limited to, enforcing state statutes, and rules, and providing technical assistance to clientele by e-mail, phone, and text. This person is expected to follow standard protocols and continually evaluate work processes to identify areas for improvement. Performs other duties as required.

     

    Minnesota’s regulatory disease programs are complex and technical in nature and an intimate working knowledge of applicable statutes, rules, policies, and procedures is required. The person in this position is also expected to be well versed in animal husbandry, epidemiology, and control of animal diseases. Interpersonal skills are essential as this position requires frequent and ongoing communication with clientele.

     

    This position is a remote worker position which is defined as, an employee who, as a condition of their appointment, has their home or alternative location as the assigned work location, works permanently from that location, and does not have an agency permanent/principal work location. Currently the BAH does not allow remote work locations outside of the State of Minnesota.     This position will work primarily in central Minnesota territories and counties. However, this position could be asked to report to other parts of the state in the event of emergency operations relating to animal disease response.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Currently possess and maintain a valid license to practice veterinary medicine (DVM or equivalent) in Minnesota or be able to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire date.

    + Currently possess and maintain Federal veterinary accreditation, category 2, or be able to obtain accreditation within 6 months of hire date.

    + Minimum two years of experience in veterinary practice. Experience may include internships, externships, fellowships, volunteer, or work experience.

    + Knowledge of the principles and practices used in the control and eradication of infectious and communicable disease in livestock and poultry.

    + Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to maintain and prioritize multiple tasks.

    + Ability to commute long distances daily.

    + The ability to celebrate diversity and a strong commitment to a respectful and inclusive work environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Three (3) or more years of professional experience in veterinary medicine.

    + Knowledge of principles and practices of veterinary medicine.

    + Laboratory or research experience and knowledge.

    + Experience with a federal or state agency.

    The Board of Animal Health will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US.
