    Job Summary

If this interests you, we want to hear from you! The incumbent works as part of the General Counsel’s Office team.

    Associate General Counsel Responsibilities:

    + Conduct human resources and employee relations investigations, and investigations related to federal and state nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws, including the Department's nondiscrimination policies.

    + Conduct complex legal research, writing, and analysis, and provide legal advice including reasonable accommodation matters.

    + Handle the Department's privacy and data practices activities related to employment law.

    + Providing legal advice to senior management or executives.

    + Responding to charges from the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR) and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

     

    This position is telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) eligible. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.

     

    This position will be based out of the St. Paul office.

     

    This posting may be used to fill multiple positions.

     

    This is a temporary, unclassified appointment. The anticipated timeframe for the initial assignment is February through March 2026, with the possibility of an additional assignment in August through September 2026. Each assignment is expected to last approximately four (4) to six (6) weeks.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.

     

    Three (3) years of legal experience as a practicing attorney. Experiences must include: Conducting employment investigations, handling U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and/or the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR) matters, and providing legal advice to senior management and/or executives.

    Applicants who meet the above minimum qualifications will be further evaluated on the following:

    Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

     

    Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and current with continuing legal education requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience representing clients in employment law litigation.

     

    Experience handling issues related to state and federal laws as they relate to DEED programs and services.

     

    Knowledge of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and ability to analyze data, determine classification of data, and provide protection of non-public data.
