    The Role

    We’re looking for a senior communications leader to help employees understand and engage with key People programs. In this role, you’ll create clear, compelling messages about culture initiatives, leadership development, AI literacy, and labor and employee relations. You’ll work closely with HR leaders and other partners to make complex topics simple, guide employees through change, and ensure leaders have the tools they need to communicate effectively. Your work will help employees feel informed, supported, and connected to Lumen’s purpose and values.

    The Main Responsibilities

    + Enterprise culture & leadership narrative: Shape and steward the storytelling for flagship culture programs (Dare to Lead, Lumen 8) and employee listening initiatives. Craft narratives that inspire trust, inclusion, and leadership excellence across the organization.

    + Talent & Leadership Development communications: Architect communication strategies for AI literacy and leadership development programs. Deliver compelling campaigns and enablement tools that accelerate capability building and career growth.

    + Labor & Employee Relations messaging: Serve as the strategic communications lead for labor relations and rapid-response scenarios. Develop frameworks and escalation-ready content that protect enterprise reputation while fostering transparency and employee confidence.

    + Change leadership for HR transformation: Drive communication strategies for policy, process, and HR technology modernization. Apply organizational change principles to ensure clarity, readiness, and adoption at scale.

    + Strategic stakeholder partnership: Operate as a trusted advisor to HR leadership, Legal, and program owners. Align messaging to enterprise priorities and ensure governance standards that uphold brand integrity and compliance.

    + Issues and incident response: Manage rapid-response communications for urgent HR matters with accuracy and sensitivity.

    + Employee storytelling: Serve as a storytelling partner to HR teams, helping translate data, outcomes and employee experiences into compelling narratives.

    What We Look For in a Candidate

    + 8–10+ years in employee communications or related roles, preferably supporting HR or People programs.

    + Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences.

    + Experience developing communication strategies for enterprise initiatives such as culture programs, leadership development, and change management.

    + Comfortable partnering with HR, Legal, and senior leaders on sensitive or high-impact topics.

    + Skilled in managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    + Familiarity with enterprise communication platforms (SharePoint, Viva, Teams) and digital content tools.

    + Ability to measure communication effectiveness and apply insights to improve outcomes.

    + Preferred: Exposure to labor relations communications and leadership development programs.

    Compensation

    This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

     

    Location Based Pay Ranges

     

    $129,639 - $172,852 in these states: AL AR AZ FL GA IA ID IN KS KY LA ME MO MS MT ND NE NM OH OK PA SC SD TN UT VT WI WV WY

     

    $136,121 - $181,494 in these states: CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI

    $142,603 - $190,137 in these states: AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA
