Position Purpose:
Oversee the shift operations of the Processing department; organizes the activities of the employees and is responsible for solving most of the problems arising during assigned shift. Assists the Supervisor with the daily operations, including but not limited to staff development and training education, daily staff assignment, ensuring adequate equipment and supplies, inventory control, quality assessment and improvement, customer service strategies, providing input for performance evaluations, and intra- and inter-departmental communication as well as liaison with medical staff and sales representatives. May spend a substantial portion of work time performing the same duties as other staff in the department.
What the Sterile Processing Tech Team Lead will do:
+ Communicates and collaborates with staff, clinical managers/directors, medical staff, and other hospital personnel regarding department operations, patient flow and staff development opportunities.
+ Oversee shift assignment operation. Resolves problems within areas of specialty.
+ Facilitates scheduling, staffing, and daily adjustments based on department needs and resources available.
+ Facilitates workflow of department, which includes but is not limited to identifying problems and suggested changes.
+ Collaborates with Manager on daily shift operations. Provides input on hiring and staff behavior. Provides feedback and input for performance reviews and mentoring of all staff assigned to shift. Ultimate supervision of staff is the responsibility of the Manager.
+ Develops, educates and mentors staff within area of responsibility. Serves as a clinical expert in assigned area.
+ Participates in initiatives/processes to improve patient safety, operational effectiveness and efficiency.
+ Provides input to develop, update and maintain clinical and operating procedures/protocols for service area in collaboration with higher management input.
+ Monitors the quality and quantity of workflow to ensure work is completed. Embraces process improvement initiatives.
+ Assists department with attaining goals established by manager.
+ Maintains knowledge by reading journals and attending conferences/seminars.
+ Assists in the training and orientation of new staff, OR staff and students to the various processes performed in Sterile Processing. Performs the same duties as other staff in the department.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Certified Processing Technician, Certified Processing
+ One to Three years' experience as a Processing Technician. Demonstrated ability in organizing activities in a work unit, solving problems with personnel, and unit.
