The **Staten Island Advance** is seeking a web-savvy **Reporter** to generate engaging and dynamic news content.

The base salary range is $50,000 - $53,000 per year.

The right candidate is a motivated professional who is committed to excellent community journalism, as well as building digital audiences and applying digital tactics to their reporting. You will be joining a forward-thinking organization that is committed to growing a robust digital news report for the Staten Island community.

We are seeking a reporter who has a talent for identifying stories, the drive to pursue them with enthusiasm and energy, and the skills to optimize their work using SEO, social media and other tools.

For this job you must understand the standards and philosophy of real-time news and be comfortable working under pressure in deadline-driven breaking news situations.

This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

+ A strong reporting and writing ability

+ Demonstrated ability with producing and editing multimedia

+ Ability to be assertive and creative when approaching news coverage

+ Results-oriented with an understanding of how to use statistical data to inform editorial decisions

+ Search engine optimization skills, and an understanding of SEO tools and trends

+ Passion for local news and online journalism, and the role of community engagement in both

+ Knowledge of Staten Island’s issues, key players and geography is a plus

+ Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience

+ 1-3 years experience reporting, writing, producing and packaging digital content in a fast-paced, competitive environment

+ Ability to work a flexible schedule—weekends and evenings a must
