This role combines responsibilities in quality/document control and animal husbandry support. You will perform activities related to animal technician duties and document control for manufacturing porcine islets and encapsulated islet combination products, adhering to SOPs and FDA Good Manufacturing Practices. This includes assisting with animal health checks, operating room and necropsy procedures, and maintaining animals, while executing strict documentation control functions according to GLP/GMP regulations.
Responsibilities
+ Support quality assurance activities by reviewing records and documents for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to quality and regulatory requirements.
+ Perform document management, tracking, and administrative support tasks for controlled document record systems.
+ Coordinate document control functions, including document logs, tracking, processing, review, distribution, release, scanning, and archiving of documents per applicable SOPs.
+ Assist in the revision, review, approval, and retirement of controlled documents such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Conduct biennial review and continuous improvement review of all controlled documents.
+ Maintain SOP binders, paper-based logs, and controlled notebooks.
+ Organize and ensure accurate and reliable filing systems for all paper-based and computer-based GXP documents.
+ Maintain training records and ensure timely completion of scheduled training.
+ Maintain change control and deviation processes for SOPs, master batch records, specifications, test methods, validation protocols/reports, technical protocols, reports, and other GMP documents.
+ Perform animal husbandry tasks to maintain a high-quality designated pathogen-free (DPF) swine herd in accordance with SOPs, USDA/AWA regulations, AAALAC program description, and FDA guidelines.
+ Assist with hands-on animal procedures including boar semen collection, artificial insemination, and farrowing.
+ Support operating and necropsy procedures.
+ Perform general facility cleaning and maintenance, such as power washing and laundry within a biosecure facility (shower in/shower out required).
+ Conduct daily animal health checks.
+ Maintain records on animal tracking, breeding, birthing, and room maintenance.
+ Monitor the health and behavior of animals, administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
+ Provide environmental enrichment to promote natural behaviors.
+ Follow strict protocols to ensure the ethical treatment of animals.
+ Safely transport animals within the facility.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 6 months of experience in animal husbandry.
+ Understanding of GMP/GLP regulations and practices.
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ Ability to multitask and adapt to various roles in a work setting.
+ Comfortable working with pigs and boars and being on feet most of the day.
+ Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Programs (Teams, 365, etc.).
+ Willingness to comply with health and safety requirements of the facility, including annual health tests and strict biosecurity protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Documentation experience in a regulated environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry.
+ Bachelor's degree.
+ Experience in swine husbandry.
+ Experience working with large animals.
+ Previous experience in an FDA-regulated environment.
+ Veterinary technician or veterinary assistant certification.
Work Environment
The role is based in a new biosecure research facility resembling an airplane hangar, fostering a team-oriented and collaborative environment. Responsibilities are divided between 60-75% documentation work in an office setting and 25-40% animal technician work, primarily in the mornings. Work hours are 6:30 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend hours. The facility includes nine large animal rooms housing approximately 100 pigs. Strict biosecurity measures, including showering upon entering and exiting the barrier rooms, are required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Richmond, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00/hr.
