• Distribution Technician - Entry Level

    About the Role

     

    We are seeking an entry-level Distribution Design Technician to support the detailed design of overhead and underground electric distribution systems. In this role, you’ll work both in the field and in an office environment to prepare design documents, sketches, estimates, and reports.

     

    This position is ideal for individuals comfortable working outdoors and interested in utility distribution, engineering, construction, or related fields. We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds — experience with underground utilities is a strong plus, but not required.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Independently design and prepare construction orders for overhead and underground electric distribution facilities using established standards, specifications, and procedures.

    + Apply client and industry standards when developing layouts for electric distribution systems.

    + Create design sketches, cost estimates, bills of materials, and supporting documentation for construction and maintenance projects.

    + Assist with load studies on distribution transformers and investigate circuit overloads or voltage issues.

    + Contact landowners or representatives to negotiate Rights of Way (easements) for proposed utility installations; gather and submit required contact and tax map information.

    + Prepare and submit project reports, documentation, and correspondence.

    + Support field data collection and convert field notes into usable design information.

    + Perform tasks such as digitizing, scanning, and copying drawings, prints, and maps.

    + Utilize client and company information systems to track, maintain, and update design activities.

    + Follow company safety policies and the Code of Safe Practices at all times.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    + High school diploma or equivalent

    + Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions

    Preferred (not required):

    + Experience in underground utilities or utility distribution

    + Background in inspection, construction, utility locating, or surveying

    + Familiarity with distribution engineering or subsurface utility engineering

    + Exposure to design tools such as Civil 3D

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
