About the Indiana Veterans' Home:
The Indiana Veterans' Home is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Originally created to care for veterans of the Civil War, the Indiana Veterans’ Home welcomed its first resident in 1896. Located on 250+ acres in West Lafayette, IVH is a full-service care facility offering a complete array of services for residents.
The mission of the Indiana Veterans' Home is to honor Indiana's veterans and their spouses by providing the highest level of care in a therapeutic home-like environment, enhancing health and yielding optimal quality of life. To do this and meet the unique needs of these heroes and their families, we deliver compassionate and comprehensive skilled care while integrating arts and cultural programming and preserving the rich history of the Home.
If you are not currently CNA certified, you must be willing to take an upcoming class provided by the Indiana Veteran's Home to gain this certification.
Role Overview:
The Activities Aide supports the well-being of residents by planning, coordinating, and leading a variety of engaging daily programs tailored to the interests and abilities of each resident. This role encourages participation through positive relationship‑building, creative motivation strategies, and consistent communication with residents and staff. The Activities Aide documents attendance, engagement levels, and resident responses to ensure programming meets individual needs and regulatory standards. For residents who are less inclined to participate, the aide develops personalized approaches—such as one‑on‑one visits, sensory activities, or adaptive alternatives—to promote inclusion and enhance quality of life.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $27,820.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
Therapeutic Activity & Patient Engagement
+ Directs, instructs, and supervises patients in activities at the Indiana Veterans' Home
+ Advises and reinforces patients on acceptable social behavior employing behavior modification or other techniques to support behavioral development
+ Plans, schedules, and executes activities for field trips to enhance patient experience
Facility Support
+ Assists in the care and maintenance of facilities and ordering of supplies to ensure a safe and functional environment
