    JOB SUMMARY

    The Manager Respiratory Therapy is responsible and accountable for all activities surrounding the operations of the respiratory care department on a 24-hour basis. This includes leadership, guidance and direction of personnel achieving optimum teamwork, assurance of quality patient care and effective operation of the department from both organizational and economic perspective. The manager participates in the performance evaluation of staff and assists in the overall evaluation of the program, and serves as the liaison between staff and senior leadership.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

    Demonstrates an ability to develop staff that focuses on competency and professional growth. Demonstrates leadership skills that motivate and influence a high level of performance.

     

    Utilizes behavioral interviewing techniques and objectives and a review of previous work history to evaluate candidates for employment. Ensures individualized unit orientation in staff development plans.

     

    Provides performance feedback to the staff on a frequent basis that encourages positive change. Implements retention strategies.

     

    Involves the staff to create action plans to continuously improve quality of care and customer satisfaction.

     

    Collaboration and negotiation skills are demonstrated in providing support to physicians and other members of the healthcare team. Participates in activities to improve physician satisfaction with services.

     

    Clearly communicates departmental goals and objectives that ensure care is provided and continuously improved.

     

    Communicates vision, vision and values. Leads staff meetings as appropriate, communicating in writing and oral format the important aspects of department operations.

     

    Monitors and evaluates department success indicators such as patient outcomes, quality improvement indicators and other objective data markers. Guides and leads team to improve processes as appropriate.

     

    Monitors patient charges for accuracy.

     

    Meets or exceeds budgeted operating margin as well as man hour/Stat and supply expense.

     

    Directs and supervises workflow, productivity and discipline of department. Assumes charge therapist role as necessary.

    KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

    Expert understanding of critical care modalities and mastery of complex clinical situations.

     

    Ability to make operational decisions around how work gets done quality standards, productivity standards, measurable goals for employees and project teams, etc.

     

    Ability to use broader objectives to determine how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals.

     

    Ability to make or approve effective hiring and termination decisions.

     

    Ability to evaluation and recommend changes to policies, and establish procedures that affect the managed organization.

     

    Basic business knowledge, including but not limited to: annual planning and goal setting, adherence to budgets, employee compensation, compliance and risk management.

     

    General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    - EDUCATION - Associate's or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification

     

    - EXPERIENCE - 3 Years of Experience

    - CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

    Basic Life Support (BLS)

     

    Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP): Licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

     

    Reg Respiratory Therapist (RRT): Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board Respiratory Care.
