RGP is seeking an experienced **Interim Payroll Director** to provide operational leadership and continuity while a new payroll system is being implemented. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day payroll and timekeeping operations, leading a large, unionized team, and ensuring accurate and timely pay cycles throughout the transition. The Interim Payroll Director will leverage deep payroll operations expertise, strong people leadership, and process improvement capabilities to maintain stability, mitigate risk, and support organizational efficiency during a critical period of change. 6 months +.
+ Lead day-to-day payroll and timekeeping operations, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely pay cycles across a highly unionized workforce.
+ Provide leadership and oversight to a team of approximately 30 employees through Managers and Supervisors across payroll accounting and timekeeping functions.
+ Assess, document, and guide current payroll and timekeeping processes, identifying risks and recommending operational and process improvements.
+ Serve as a subject-matter resource during a payroll system implementation by providing consultation, continuity, and operational insight.
+ Partner closely with senior finance leadership to maintain compliance, resolve issues, and ensure uninterrupted payroll operations during the transition.
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in payroll, accounting, finance, or a related field.
+ 8+ years of experience leading payroll and/or timekeeping operations, including responsibility for large, multi-level union teams.
+ Demonstrated experience working in highly unionized environments with multiple collective bargaining agreements.
+ Strong operational knowledge of payroll, timekeeping, scheduling, and compliance, with the ability to guide teams without performing data entry.
+ Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, including experience interacting with union employees and representatives.
+ Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems such as Kronos, Dynamics AX, or similar platforms; system implementation experience is a plus.
+ Variety of workplace arrangements including hybrid, remote, onsite.
+ Compensation commensurate with employee qualifications, experience, and other factors including geographic location, market, and operational factors.
