Nature of Work
This is a semi-skilled position in the Environmental Services Division of the Public Works Department responsible for clean, safe, and organized environment throughout the facility. Work involves manual labor in performing cleaning, maintenance, and groundskeeping duties in a hybrid office/industrial setting. This role supports plant operations by ensuring work areas, restrooms, break rooms, and common spaces meet cleanliness and safety standards. Work is performed under general supervision and is coordinated with contractual cleaning services as necessary.
The 2025 starting rate of pay is $24.13 per hour with advancement to $31.31 per hour. Once the contract has settled the 2026 rate will be available.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Perform general facility cleaning
+ Maintain assigned areas in a safe, orderly, and clean condition, adhering to regulatory safety requirements and industry best practices.
+ Clean carpeted and hard-surface floors using manual and powered equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, power washers, and other equipment as appropriate.
+ Clean offices, restrooms, locker rooms, shop, garage, hallways, stairwells, laboratory, workstations, shared office spaces, and other spaces as deemed necessary.
+ Dust and clean furniture and workstations; wash walls, glass, and windows.
+ Remove trash, recyclables, and other waste from buildings and grounds.
+ Restock restrooms, breakrooms, and other areas with appropriate supplies
+ Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and equipment.
*Perform maintenance and repair work
+ Perform basic maintenance on janitorial equipment including floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, power washers, carpet extractors, buffers, and related cleaning tools.
+ Perform minor repair and maintenance of office equipment, furniture, plumbing fixtures, basic lighting, door hardware, and other common building components.
+ Replace filters on HVAC equipment, add salt to water softening equipment, flush water heaters, and perform other routine mechanical system maintenance.
*Perform grounds maintenance
+ Operate riding and walk-behind mowers to maintain lawn areas.
+ Remove brush and weeds; prune shrubs within landscaped beds to promote healthy growth and appearance.
+ Clear snow and ice from sidewalks using appropriate equipment such as snow shovels and snow blowers to ensure safe access. May also require adding a pretreatment product to aid in removal efficiency.
* Provide timely and customer-service oriented response to a variety of calls for service
+ Prepare conference and training rooms for scheduled events by rearranging furniture, setting up partition walls, and ensuring all necessary equipment and materials are in place.
+ Pick up and deliver documents and packages, between City offices and local vendors.
+ Provide guidance and recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor on matters within area of expertise.
Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience performing janitorial, custodial and/or building maintenance work.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
