    POSITION: AIR CONDITIONING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM PROFESSIONAL LABORATORY ASSISTANT – Hall campus

     

    REPORTS TO: Dean of Applied Technology

     

    COMPENSATION: Depending on education and qualifications

     

    DEADLINE: Until filled

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Professional Laboratory Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Program Director and performs routine inventory management, classroom and shop organization, and instructional activities with students. All Tasks require close attention to detail in the preparation, basic maintenance, and operation of laboratory equipment, inventory, and requisition of supplies, assisting faculty in supervision of students assigned to laboratories, and other related duties. Professional Lab Assistants are employed on an individual academic term basis

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Under general supervision:

    • Ensures that safety and security requirements are met in the Classroom & Shop

    • Maintain and organize lab/shop inventory

    • Prepare lab/shop for class instruction

    • Obtain s materials needed for classes, including hardware, activity sheets, and other materials

    • Assist faculty members with classroom instruction, exams, record keeping, and adherence to safety procedures, tracking attendance/performance, and other miscellaneous tasks related to instruction

    • Interact with students as needed to support the educational environment

    • Ensure all tools and materials are returned and stored properly after each class

    • Clean lab/shop at the end of each class

    • Documents all changes to inventory or tool condition to the program director by email

    • Maintains supplies/equipment and emails classroom/lab requests to the program director

    • Completes required institutional training

     

    This position will serve to support courses in our Air Conditioning Technology program.

     

    -Classes are scheduled Monday – Thursday, 8 am-4 pm

     

    -Semester classes meet one (1) day per week for 16 weeks.

     

    -Summer Term meets two (2) days per week for 8 weeks.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Strong work ethic. Work experience in education, maintenance, customer service, or trades. Strong organizational skills; Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Self-directed, effective decision-making and problem-solving skills; Ability to work cooperatively with others in a fair and unbiased manner, and to maintain a pleasant, professional relationship with students and faculty/staff; Ability to supervise diverse students in a variety of educational settings.

    PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Ability to perform physical aspects of the position, including, but not limited to: Lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines without accommodation;

    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and professional attire.

    • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills

    • Self-directed, ability to follow written instructions.

    • Ability to maintain accurate Lab/Shop records and inventory

    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

    • Ability to supervise students in a classroom and/or lab setting.

    • Ability to maintain a professional relationship with students and faculty/staff

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications and competencies):

    • Three (3) years of work experience in education, maintenance, customer service, or trades

    • Experience in education or an instructional environment

    • Associate degree in a related field of physics, technology, or education
