Banner Thunderbird is currently looking for a Respiratory Educator to work days (40 hours/week; Monday-Friday). Previous Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit experience is preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position coordinates the educational needs of the department. This position provides leadership to staff and students, staff orientation, assessment of competence, systematic assessments of continuing education needs. This position develops programs to assist with professional growth and quality assessments and improvements related to education.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Assess the skills, competencies, and learning needs of employees, patients, students and the community members identified or impacted by disease processes within area of discipline.
2. Develops curriculum, educational materials and programs as identified by individual and departmental needs and evidence based practice.
3. Evaluates learning and educational growth of employees within area of discipline. Establishes, maintains, and oversees departmental preceptor/mentor program.
4. Acts as a resource for staff, physicians, leadership team, and other healthcare professionals through problem identification and resolution, relating advice regarding appropriate care, management of complex patients, facilitation of work processes, including procurement of necessary supplies, equipment and expertise, and timely delivery of care.
5. Provides leadership, encourages teamwork and maximizes the effectiveness and efficiency of available personnel by assessing volume and necessary resources. Communicates staffing needs to the department designee.
6. Participates in the orientation, training and continuing development of staff, and provides focused education to nursing, resident staff and attending physicians. Assures staff maintains appropriate certification and/or licensure.
7. Assists in the development, modification and implementation of departmental programs, processes, policies and procedures. Participates in the on-going monitoring of quality, appropriateness and effectiveness of departmental services, including data collection, trending, and recommendation for improvement. Participates and helps to oversee all departmental research projects.
8. This position coordinates the educational needs of the department. May provide direct patient care. Acts as a direct resource to supervisors to provide intervention and resolution to immediate problems that arise during the shift, including timeliness of care, equipment availability and issues with physicians. Responsible for the skill development and competency of all department employees. Internal customers include patients, their families, visitors, physicians, nurses and other healthcare personnel. External contacts include vendors, regulatory agency personnel and payer representatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and knowledge as typically acquired through an Associate’s or Technical degree in a related field.
Proof of good standing with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). A current license in state practiced as required by state law. Requires BLS and ACLS certification.
In-depth knowledge of clinical techniques, applications and equipment as typically obtained through six years of clinical experience as a RRT.
In Home Care setting, must possess valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
This position requires excellent communication skills and experience in development, teaching and coordinating educational programs for adult learners. This position requires strong organization, communication, group interaction and presentation skills, and ability to take the initiative, to problem solve, and to improve processes required. Must possess critical thinking skills with ability to prioritize needs rapidly. Excellent verbal/written communication and negotiation skills; problem solving ability, understanding of regulatory guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of practice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of a training course in PICC and Banner Health Sims Lab training for CVC insertions with one (1) year of independent experience administering PICC or CVC line insertions preferred.
Certification for PALS and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Neonatal Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS), CPUI and VA-BC certifications preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
