    Overview

     

    The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering ( **TFOME** ) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center is searching for an Electronic Technician.

     

    TFOME is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in providing engineering and technical services in the areas of aero/space propulsion and power test facilities to NASA Glenn.

     

    Compensation

     

    The hourly rate for this position is $35.87 hourly. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

    Function of Position

     

    Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Determining the location and density of circuitry

     

    Evaluating electromagnetic radiation

     

    Isolating malfunctions

     

    Incorporating engineering changes

     

    Work typically requires a detailed understanding of the interrelationships of circuits

     

    Nature of Position Challenges

     

    Exercises independent judgement in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow.

     

    Uses complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.

     

    Supervisor Guidance

     

    Works under the general guidance of lead personnel, Technical Supervisor or Engineer.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    New hires with more than 4 years of verifiable electronics experience, and apprenticeship graduates with 2 additional years of NASA related experience and who have completed an Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology, or an equivalent vocational trades program.

     

    Familiarity with basic electrical codes and knowledge of proper use of the NEC handbook.

     

    Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.

     

    Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow.

     

    Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.

     

    Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.

     

    Direct knowledge of electrical equipment, electronic sensors that monitor equipment, electronics, multimeters, advanced multimeters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.

     

    Knowledge/experience of one or more aspects related to Data Systems/Computer Engineering.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

    A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    Works from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, cranes, boatswain chairs, suspended platforms or cages, etc.

     

    Works while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, or in a prone position for extended time periods.

     

    Works in closely confined spaces.

     

    Lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds, sometimes up and down stairways, where lifting devices and hoists are not available.

     

    Pushes and pulls heavy objects.

     

    Ability to use hearing and vision protection and respiratory equipment.

     

    One eye (minimum) correctable to 20/20.

     

    Ability to distinguish eight color panel displays.

     

    B. WORK ENVIRONMENT

     

    Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.

     

    Work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environments.

     

    Work in areas where there may be materials that are irritating to eyes, nose, throat, and skin while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

     

    Work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented.

     

    Accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.

     

    Work on and around high voltage equipment and systems.

     

    C. EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASK

     

    Up to 1½ ton trucks and vehicles .

     

    Forklifts.

     

    Man lifts such as JLG, Handy Herman, Bucket truck, etc.

     

    Cranes

     

    Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic hand tools.

     

    D. CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE

     

    Regular daily attendance is required to maintain job effectiveness. Some overtime may be required.
