    CommScope is seeking a Materials Development Technician to work full time (40 hours per week) as part of our Materials Engineering team located in Claremont, North Carolina with the ability to drive to Catawba, North Carolina weekly.

    Overview:

    The Materials Development Technician will provide laboratory support for the development of new materials for use in Telecommunications products.

    Responsibilities:

    + Operates a variety of polymer processing equipment, including compression molding, extrusion / compounding equipment to make test specimens for analytical, physical and mechanical experiments.

    + Operate and maintaining equipment, instruments and processes in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Site/Corporate Safety policies.

    + Good housekeeping and perform lab preventive maintenance duties in a timely mannerInteract and work with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technicians.

    + Prepare and evaluate experimental material formulationsDocument test procedures, collect data and report results.

    + Write technical summaries and maintain laboratory records of experimental procedures and results.

    Qualifications:

    + Ability to follow verbal instructions or detailed written procedures accurately.

    + Operate laboratory and pilot scale mixing equipment. Hands on experience with laboratory or industrial blending/mixing equipment are a plus.

    + Operate industrial equipment, e.g. small laminating presses, ovens, vacuum ovens etc.

    + Ability to conduct analytical, physical, mechanical and rheological testing.

    + Ability to travel daily to other lab in Catawba and Apex facilities.

    + Perform new materials formulations by carefully combining various components.

    + Familiarity with good laboratory practices and attention to detail are important.Experience in one or more of the following: formulation, mixing, basic mechanical assembly, compounding, physical property testing.

    + Ability to detail experimental procedures, processes, observations and resultsDigital literacy in MS-Excel, Word and Outlook.

    Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

    + Associate degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of on the job training and experienceIndustrial or laboratory experience.

    + Must be a self starter with a desire to learn new skills.

    + Ability to move quickly among multiple projects as priorities change.

    + Good communication and time leadership skills
