About this Job
The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the veteran population of Louisiana by providing medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans, with the ultimate goal of returning them to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.
The Louisiana Veterans Homes is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Food Service Specialist 5 to assist with the management and operation of our Dietary department. This role is vital to ensuring their role in ensuring supervision over basic -level food service preparation duties within the food service operation. The ideal candidate a team player, willing to learn, maintain leadership skills and be able to maintain job requirements in a fast-paced environment. Minimum Qualifications
Three years of food service experience in a food service operation; OR
Three years of training in food technology, food service management, or in a food service-related curriculum in a trade school or technical institute; OR
Thirty-six semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, food service preparation, home economics, or hotel, food service, restaurant, or institutional management.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Serves as shift supervisor of a food service operation and ensures that all duty stations are manned on an assigned shift.
Checks menus for assigned meals and ensures all items needed are in stock.
Obtains supplies from storage rooms; ensures that items are prepared, cooked, and served in accordance with standards of quality and quantity.
Serves on interview panels when applicants apply for lower-level Food Service Specialist jobs.
Monitors the cleanliness of the food service operation and ensures that it meets all sanitary codes.
Evaluates performance of lower-level Food Service Specialists and approves their leave.
