Job Summary and Essential Job Duties:
The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for supplier development, quality performance monitoring and reporting on the quality of manufactured optical components, issuing resolution, and continuous improvement across the supply chain. This role frequently interacts with suppliers for quality-related matters and interprets and assesses product adherence to quality-related material, component and services specifications.
The Supplier Quality Engineer will maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Through On the Job Training (OJT), Quality Supplier Engineer will:
+ Work in conjunction with Purchasing to evaluate, qualify and approve new suppliers
+ Work independently or with internal teams and suppliers to establish and document root cause and implement corrective action for Customer and Optimax requirements
+ Perform evaluation of Supplier First Article Inspection documentation (FAI) and sign off as needed
+ Work with Purchasing Team on defining vendor data packages
+ Provide engineering level support to quality inspectors responsible for compiling vendor data packages
+ Provide resources for and participates in supplier audits
+ Regularly conduct internal ISO audits and supports annual ISO audit as a member of the ISO core team
+ Develop, practice, and provide guidance in metrology processes associated with optical and optical system components
+ Spend extended periods of time in a clean room environment supporting optical and optical system component inspection as needed
+ Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
+ Complete QA specific engineering initiatives or other duties as assigned by the QA manager individually or as a team effort
Advancement through the Quality Supplier Engineer ranks is attained via increasing levels of education, experience, industrial skills, math skills, computing skills, responsibility and leadership potential and effectiveness.
Education Requirements:
+ Minimum B.S. degree in Engineering or Applied Science
+ Three (3) years of Quality Engineering experience desired; less than 3 years of direct Quality Engineering will be considered with demonstrated hands-on technical manufacturing or Quality-related experience
Minimum Requirements:
+ Familiarity with MS Project, GD&T, and CAD/CAM software
+ Experience with Matlab, MetroPro, MX is desired
+ Familiarity with Gauge R&R, MSA, and SPC
+ Strong understanding of quality tools: PPAP, APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, 8D, RCCA.
+ Working knowledge of optics manufacturing/metrology processes, tooling and equipment
+ Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, or other relevant standards
+ Ability to work and contribute in a team setting
+ Ability to effectively lead a team
+ Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
+ Must be creative while thinking systematically
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills
+ A highly developed set of interpersonal skills
+ Enthusiastic, cooperative and positive behavior

Other Skills and Experience:
+ Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Work Environment:
+ This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.
+ May involve the use of oils and solvents.
+ Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
+ May require area specific safety training
+ The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes
+ May be assigned to various production areas as needs require.
