Custom Job Purpose:
This position exists to perform responsible supervisory work in directing the operation of the Maintenance Service Centers. Assists the Director and Senior Coordinator with planning and prioritizing of maintenance repairs and projects to buildings and mechanical equipment for all School Board owned facilities in their assigned area.
Essential Functions of this Job
Supervises school board skilled trade technicians and contractors performing repairs and projects to buildings and mechanical equipment for all School Board owned facilities in their assigned area.
Conducts research regarding costs studies and procedures for maintenance related projects and maintenance work orders. Assists in the overall operations and functions of the service centers. Assists in compiling prioritized needs for the district#s facilities located in their assigned area. Ensures implemented preventative maintenance programs and procedures are used to track all aspects of facilities plant management. Serves as liaison to school-based administration regarding the status of work that requires capital investment, postponed work, or work that will not be performed.
Schedules work of crews. Evaluates work performance of the maintenance helpers and tradesmen. Establishes discipline and resolves problems. Instructs safety program and the use of tools and equipment. Evaluates employee's strengths and weaknesses and works with them to better utilize their talents. Performs annual performance evaluations on employees. Coordinates workload to increase productivity and fulfill the needs of our facilities.
Supervises work of contractors and vendors to ensure they follow school board building codes and follow the contract documents. Assist Construction Services staff with major construction projects on an as needed basis. Assist purchasing staff with specifications and evaluating bid responses. Coordinates maintenance related repairs and projects with various departments of the district.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the modern practices and procedures used in facilities maintenance and project planning. Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to maintenance and repair activities. Ability to place, inspect and supervise the work of employees. Ability to plan the work of several crews involved in construction. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and other school system personnel. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements
Graduation from high school or trade school or completion of GED. Completion of courses in technical education. Considerable experience in facilities plant maintenance in public school system preferred. Must have a valid driver's license appropriate to the vehicles assigned to the trade and be qualified to drive a School Board vehicle.
Work Context:
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires coordinating or leading others in accomplishing work activities. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment:
Requires medium work exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25 lbs. of force frequently and/or 10 lbs. as needed to move objects.
