    The NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research (http://mcsilver.nyu.edu/) is committed to creating new knowledge about the root causes of poverty, developing evidence-based interventions to address its consequences, and rapidly translating research findings into action through policy and best practices.

     

    We are looking to hire a talented and motivated individual to serve as our Communications Director. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Director will oversee the Institute's internal and external communications, events, and policy initiatives. The ideal candidate has the drive and desire to work and manage a fast-paced team, has exceptional writing, communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and is able to work collaboratively with a diverse and high-energy team.

    Responsibilities :

    + Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of a strategic communications and marketing plan to achieve the mission and goals of the institute

    + Communications Initiatives: Oversee the development of all external and internal communications initiatives, determining the most appropriate platform to utilize depending upon the targeted audience.

    + Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive leadership team to create a comprehensive communications plan to maximize social impact through thought-leadership and strategic partnerships.

    + Brand Consistency: Oversee the development of consistent messaging across the organization to promote NYU McSilver’s mission, vision, and values.

    + Content Management: Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic content, including press releases, op-eds, annual reports, policy briefs, promotional materials, website, podcasts, videos, and social media.

    + Media Strategy: Develop and institute a strategic plan for media exposure and oversee organizational response to media inquiries by fully vetting all inquiries and coordinating all media exposure.

    + Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related discipline is preferred.

    + 5+ years’ relevant experience in external affairs, communications, and/or marketing with progressive leadership responsibility and a strong track record in media relations, including an existing network of journalists across all media platforms.

    + Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills, with proven success in tailoring messages and translating complex research for a diverse range of stakeholders.

    + A strong journalism background with expertise in writing opinion pieces, press releases, and reports.

    + Experience producing a variety of digital content, including video and social media campaigns.

    + Creative self-starter with excellent judgment; proactive; able to manage multiple priorities and projects through to completion. Must be a problem-solver and team player with strong project and team management skills.

    + Proficiency in Canva and other design tools to support the development of promotional materials and digital content.

    + Intellectual curiosity and an in-depth knowledge of social justice issues, especially racial and gender equity.

    Salary

     

    This position is full-time and includes a generous benefits package (https://www.nyu.edu/employees/benefit/full-time/professional-research-staff.html) . In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 – $125,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

    Please note:

    + NYU McSilver is currently operating on a hybrid schedule of 3-days a week in-person.

    + This is a grant-funded position with the opportunity for ongoing renewal reviewed on an annual basis.

    + This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, including OPT or STEM OPT extension. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment.
