Your role as a Direct Support Professional Success Coach

As a Success Coach at The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler, you will play a pivotal role in guiding new employees through their critical first six months in our residential program. Your responsibilities will include providing individualized, person-centered skills training and support, ensuring that staff effectively assist individuals with developmental disabilities. By serving as a positive role model for teamwork, you'll help shape a compassionate work culture focused on individual advocacy, rights, informed decision-making, and dignity of risk. To thrive as a Success Coach at The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler, you will need a diverse skill set that encompasses effective communication, strong leadership, and organizational abilities. Familiarity with software and tools related to training and documentation is essential, as you will provide skills instruction and feedback on various job tasks such as cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, and money management. A solid understanding of the NYS Justice Center and OPWDD regulations is crucial for guiding staff within these frameworks.

You will also be responsible for promoting proficiency in OPWDD Core Competencies and the Code of Ethics, requiring you to review orientation materials thoroughly and ensure staff comprehension. Regular interactions with new staff, supervisors, and administration are critical, so being empathetic while acting as a supportive liaison is important. Additionally, the ability to observe, coach, and provide constructive feedback will help in identifying performance concerns and fostering staff development.
