Jacobs’ Transportation team is seeking a Senior Roadway Engineer / Task Manager to lead and deliver highways-related infrastructure projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work on multi-disciplined transportation projects focused on highway, roadway, and interchange design. In this role, you will serve as a senior-level roadway design engineer and task manager on large transportation projects across the region, performing and overseeing preliminary and final design engineering and preparing documentation to meet local and state requirements for clients such as the Virginia DOT and local municipalities.

As a Task Manager, you will provide technical leadership and manage roadway design tasks, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget compliance. You’ll coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement, and environmental), supervise engineers and technicians, and participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling. You’ll also play a key role in client engagement, tracking upcoming opportunities, and supporting project pursuits.

Key Responsibilities:

•Lead roadway design tasks for major transportation projects, including design-build and traditional delivery.

•Prepare roadway design using local (State, County, or City) and AASHTO standards at conceptual, preliminary, and final design levels.

•Develop specifications, cost estimates, and final bid packages.

•Perform plan quality reviews and participate in value engineering studies. Thoroughly understand and implement the Jacobs Quality Management Systems requirements, processes, and procedures.

•Manage task budgets, schedules, and deliverables while mentoring junior staff.

•Collaborate with project managers and discipline leads to ensure successful project delivery.

•Assist in the development and execution of local marketing and business development, researches and tracks future project opportunities, initiates and reviews proposals and participates in interviews and presentations.

•Staff training

•Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

•Extensive experience in highway/roadway design and task management for large transportation infrastructure projects.

•Experience with alternative delivery methods (Design-Build, PPP).

•Proficiency in MicroStation, and OpenRoads

•Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia

•Demonstrated experience with VDOT design standards and criteria.

•Strong technical background in roadway/highway geometrics, traffic engineering, and drainage design.

•Knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, and MUTCD standards.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

•Working knowledge of ProjectWise.

•Active involvement in professional organizations.
