Job Title: Design EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Solidworks Jig, Fixture, and Tooling Design Engineer to join our team in Jackson, MI. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing ergonomic assist machines and making modifications to custom machines.

Responsibilities

+ Design various jigs, fixtures, tooling, and machines, spending approximately 70% of your time behind the computer.

+ Perform detailing work due to high demand and workload.

+ Spend 15% of your time working on sketches and performing rough calculations.

+ Dedicate 5% of your time to fieldwork, gathering information and receiving training.

+ Collaborate with controls teams, engineers, sales, and customers to discuss design issues and status.

Essential Skills

+ 5+ years of experience with jig, fixture, tooling, and machine design.

+ Proficiency in Solidworks, with the ability to work through designs quickly.

+ Capability to navigate simple calculations related to hydraulics and pneumatics.

+ Understanding of the engineering principles of mechanical components such as motors, gears, and conveyors.

+ Experience in interacting with various teams and customers to address design issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ CSWA (Certified Solidworks Associate) or CSWP (Certified Solidworks Professional) certifications are a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment is a family-oriented, smaller shop with 25-30 team members. The design room is functional with essential tools provided for success. The facility, though 30+ years old, is well-maintained and the staff is friendly and hardworking. The CAD department has a view of the manufacturing floor. Minimal travel within Southeast Michigan is required. Candidates should be comfortable working in a high-paced, high-volume environment and be prepared to work on their feet for extended periods. A background in Tool Room/Machine Building is beneficial.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $42.00/hr.
