    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The David R. Ravin School of Architecture (SoA) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Interior Architecture. The School wishes to expand its commitment to architectural design excellence within the domain of the interior environment. As new technologies and materials transform the built landscape, from the methods and techniques used to design to the systems deployed within them, the SoA seeks to expand its instructional breadth and design research capacity in the realm of interior architecture at the undergraduate and graduate level.

     

    The SoA offers four-degree programs: Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, Master of Architecture, Master of Science in Architecture, and Master of Urban Design, as well as a range of dual degree programs that engage a variety of academic departments across the university. These programs attract students from a wide range of backgrounds.

    Minimum Experience / Education:

    UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

    Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

    The successful candidate will teach in the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Master of Architecture programs. The position entails responsibilities in research, teaching, and service. It also offers opportunities to engage SoA’s various design research labs and state-of-the-art CNC fabrication facilities, as well as participation in interdisciplinary initiatives across the College and University.

     

    The successful candidate will have experience teaching architectural design studios, electives, and/or specialized focus areas, and will support the expansion of interiors’ instruction and initiatives within the curriculum, including a certificate in interior architecture. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to be an effective design studio teacher. Particular interest will be given to applicants who foster critical inquiry, engage in new territories of thinking about the interior environment, advance experimental and computational methods, investigate innovative and sustainable new material technologies, promote healthy indoor environmental quality, and support collaborative, cross-disciplinary partnerships and interdisciplinary engagement as part of their teaching, design and/or research. Evidence of published design work, research and scholarship, design awards, research grants and/or design practice is required. An advanced degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, and/or related discipline is required.
