Job Description:

The College of Dentistry is recruiting a part-time OPS Dental Hygienist position at the Wildlight Dental Clinic in Yulee, Florida. This position will work under the direction of dental faculty members in oral hygiene instruction, dental cleanings, and related treatments and administer local anesthesia (as necessary).

+ Perform oral prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance procedures, scaling, and root planing procedures for patients of the Wildlight Dental Clinic, as permitted by Florida law. Instruct, evaluate and supervise patients in oral hygiene education and preventive dental techniques. Perform all other related duties. Complete appropriate extra- and intra-oral exams, including probing and charting. Maintain current medical and dental history, blood pressure, radiographs, progress notes, and charge entry.

+ Keep dental faculty members informed of patient appointments and coordinate scheduling between doctors and patients. Support the patient recall system and scheduling, in cooperation with the front office staff members, to ensure timely care and scheduling of patients. Perform other administrative duties as necessary (i.e., copying, filing patient charts, etc.).

+ Supervise sterilization of dental instruments or sterilize them (when necessary). Maintain clinic and operatory equipment in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. Order and stock hygiene supplies.

+ Expose, develop, and mount standardized and other special radiographs.

+ Participate in in-service training and lectures. Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification and Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) licensure. Perform other duties (as necessary). Attend meetings (as required).

+ Other Duties as assigned

Expected Salary:

$40.00 - $45.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Licensed as a dental hygienist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of dental terminology, dental procedures, dental equipment and instruments and knowledge of dental materials.

Exceptional interpersonal skills. Good organizational skills. Ability to communicate orally, by phone, and in writing with faculty members, staff members, and patients. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to prioritize and work independently. Exceptional compassion.
