    The Critical Care Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care in a variety of critical care settings. Consistently performs according to nursing standards and is accountable in managing patient care and assisting others in the management of patient care. Responsibilities include monitoring, assessment, vital sign monitoring, ventilator management, medication administration, intravenous insertion and infusion, central line care, catheters, and maintenance of a running record of the patient’s status. The Critical Care RN must be prepared at all times to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other lifesaving measures for the patients in their care.

     

    Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN)

     

    The Critical Care RN is a highly skilled and compassionate nursing professional responsible for delivering specialized care to patients with life-threatening conditions in an intensive care setting. This role requires advanced clinical judgment, rapid decision-making, and the ability to manage complex and unstable patients. The RN collaborates closely with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and support staff to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care in a high-acuity environment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Apply the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill patients

    • Perform comprehensive assessments, including vital signs, physical exams, health histories, and interpretation of advanced monitoring data

    • Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and other critical care equipment

    • Administer medications, IV therapies, and advanced treatments as prescribed

    • Document patient responses and changes in condition accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)

    • Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop and adjust individualized care plans

    • Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions

    • Maintain strict adherence to infection control, safety, and quality standards

    • Respond promptly to emergencies such as cardiac arrest, rapid deterioration, or code situations

    • Advocate for patients and uphold confidentiality and patient rights

    Minimum Requirements

    • Current Registered Nurse License in the state of practice

    • Minimum one year of professional nursing experience; critical care experience preferred

    • Completion of Amergis' Competency Program (if applicable)

    • Current BLS and ACLS certification (PALS preferred for pediatric critical care)

    • Proficiency in ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and critical care protocols

    • TB screening and health clearance (as required)

    • Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations

    • Successful completion of new hire orientation and critical care training

    • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations

    • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English

    • Basic computer literacy

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
