You’ll lead a union hourly team in Trenton, MI in a fast-paced environment, own shift performance (Safety, Quality, Delivery), and have the support and visibility to implement continuous improvement—not just “keep the line running.”
What you’ll do
As a Production Shift Supervisor, you’ll manage a small work team in a high-volume, unionized manufacturing environment. You’ll be accountable for shift execution and results while developing your team and improving performance.
Shift Execution & Results
+ Deliver the production plan by managing daily priorities, removing obstacles, and coordinating with support functions.
+ Monitor shift performance, identify losses, and drive solutions that improve throughput and stability in your Zone/Area.
+ Track and communicate key shift updates and performance metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost).
Safety Leadership
+ Maintain a safe workplace and ensure consistent use of required safety tools and procedures.
+ Lead safety improvements in your area and reinforce safe behaviors and standards across the team.
Quality Ownership
+ Monitor quality KPIs, prioritize issues, and guide Team Leaders to contain problems and prevent recurrence.
+ Work cross-functionally to address root causes and sustain corrective actions.
Team Leadership & Staffing
+ Allocate people effectively across the line based on skills and production needs.
+ Manage attendance/absenteeism and ensure proper training and coverage.
+ Coach, mentor, and develop Team Leaders and team members to strengthen performance and engagement.
Continuous Improvement / Lean
+ Drive CI activities (Kaizen, waste reduction, standard work, problem solving) focused on Safety, Cost, Quality, and Throughput.
+ Use plant CI/WCM tools (including loss analysis tools such as C-Matrix where applicable) to coordinate improvement work and sustain results.
Ideal Candidates Will have
+ High school diploma or GED
+ Previous work experience supervising or leading teams in a high-volume manufacturing/production environment Ability to work any shift and overtime as needed to accommodate production deadlines
+ Strong communication and organization skills; ability to lead in a fast-paced environment
+ Proven ability to coach, mentor, and hold teams accountable
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office to ensure reporting and statistics are accurately reports
Plus, if you bring any of these skills or experience you are an even stronger match
+ Bachelor’s degree (technical field preferred)
+ Experience leading teams in a union environment
+ Experience with continuous improvement / Lean manufacturing (Kaizen, 5S, standard work, root cause/problem solving)
+ Ability to partner effectively with plant leadership and cross-functional support teams
