    Job Summary and Qualifications

    •​Responsibleto followhospital and AAMI standards andpolicies asrelated to cleaning, decontamination and processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment performed in the Central Sterile Supply Department. Responsible for the day-to-day workflow of the department and the efficiency and quality of the work performed within the department.

     

    Participates in Performance Improvement projects. Assumes weekends, on-call, holidays and shift responsibilities as assigned. Maintains education through attendance of allmandatoryin services and self-study. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. ​

    Analyzes and informs director of needs for instrumentation​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Observes staff for efficiency and completeness of processing instrument trays​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Supervises, orients and instructs personnel emphasizing importance of quality in sterile processing.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Inspectsarea daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards. Takescorrective action when violations occur. ​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards for area.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Maintains open relationship with all department utilizing sterile processing. Givesfeedback to departments as needed.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Supervises andassistwith care and maintenance of departmental equipment used in performance of duties. Request maintenance and repair of equipment and maintains records.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Performs random audits for quality of care in preparing surgical instrument trays.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Serves as a liaison with vendors and reinforces adherence to policies and procedures for consignment instrumentation. Reports deficiencies in compliance.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Informs bio-medof equipmentnolonger service able or other problems that arise.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Demonstrates knowledge of theoccurrencereporting system. Usessystem to report potential patient safety issues.​

    •​Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.​

    •​Recognizes/develops new services/processes to present to Department Director as appropriate.​

    •​Adheres to aseptic technique.​

    •​Assists in development of new processes or services whichto supervisestaff within perimeters assigned.​

    •​Concurrently analyzes department instrumentation needs on an ongoing basis to determine potential variances andmake adjustmentswhere necessary.​

    •​Identifies savings opportunities or revenue enhancements that add value to departmental or facility processes.​

    •​Adheres to and enforces accounts payable policies.​

    •​Assists in preparing operational and capital budgets.​

    •​Provides comprehensive department and job-specific orientation, in-service training and continuous education for all employees and maintains appropriate documentation.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Consistentlyapplies Human Resource policies and procedures. Specific attention is paid to attendance, tardiness and image guidelines.​

     

    + ​​​

     

    •​Ensures successful timely implementation of Performance Evaluation process including Planning, feedback, coaching, progress review and appraisal.​

    •​Holds regular staff meetings. Takes minutes of meetings and makes them available toDirector, andcommunicates pertinent information to staff not in attendance.​

    What qualifications you will need:

    + Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

    + (CRCST) Certified Registered Central Service Technician
