    + This job is a member of the Airline Operations Technology organization within the Technology Division. The Sr. Manager will lead the Cargo Technology organization that handles all aspects of American Airlines Cargo business unit.

    What you'll do

    + Collaborates with Business and IT leadership to define systems vision, direction, priorities, and technology roadmaps while ensuring clear communication and progress toward targets.

    + Ensures consistent application of agile project management, business analysis, and quality assurance practices, using software development best practices to maintain quality while meeting deadlines.

    + Removes roadblocks, builds strong cross‑enterprise relationships, communicates effectively at all leadership levels, and enforces technology standards across teams.

    + Drives continuous improvement of development processes and optimizes how applications support business operations, while leading adoption and migration of new and emerging technologies.

    + Oversees resource estimation, allocation, and delivery to ensure initiatives meet business needs; manages and tracks project and program schedules and budgets in partnership with controllers.

    + Maintains strong problem‑solving, multitasking, coordination, and scheduling discipline to ensure visibility, predictability, and alignment with goals.

    + Develops, mentors, and motivates a high‑performing team of technologists including project managers, business analysts, QA professionals, and developers.

    + Manages production support and off‑hours operational needs, including communication and issue resolution, and works extended hours or travels as required.

     

    All you'll need for success

    Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

    + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

    + 10 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing and implementing large-scale applications in hosted production environments

    + 7 years of experience overseeing large technology projects from inception to implementation in an enterprise environment

    + 5 years of experience delivering SDLC solutions using ITIL / Agile / XP, or similar methodologies

    Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

    + Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

    + Airline industry experience, including business processes and supporting technology

    Skills, Licenses & Certifications

    + Strong leadership experience in attracting, developing, motivating, and transforming technical teams across varying skill levels, regions, and high‑stress environments to meet deliverables and overcome obstacles.

    + Proven collaborator with the ability to build strong relationships across IT and Business, drive consensus across multiple teams and domains, and manage conflicting priorities in fast‑paced, mission‑critical operations.

    + Extensive background delivering both third‑party SaaS and custom‑built technology solutions, supported by a balanced focus on IT hygiene including EOSL, patching, DR compliance, and technical debt management.

    + Demonstrated success leading, supporting, and delivering mission‑critical projects, migrations, and real‑time, non‑stop operational environments requiring urgency, adaptability, and best‑practice execution.

    + Deep understanding of the full SDLC using agile, lean, and waterfall methodologies, with strong technical proficiency in object‑oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and engineering best practices.

    + Experienced in Agile project management tools and DevOps practices including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.

    + Skilled in vendor and contract oversight including requirements gathering, reviews, approvals, and managing statements of work with vendor partners, vendor management, and legal.

    + Strong financial and operational management capability with a proven ability to juggle multiple simultaneous projects and workstreams while making sound strategic decisions in dynamic environments.
