Senior Incident Response & Cyber Tabletop Coordinator

    Employment Type: Contract‑to‑Hire

    Duration: 12 Months

Workplace Type: Hybrid (3 days on site)

Accepted Locations: Tempe, AZ • San Diego, CA • Austin, TX • New York City or Fort Mill, SC

    Overview

A leading financial services organization is seeking a Senior Incident Response & Cyber Tabletop Coordinator to enhance cybersecurity readiness, incident management processes, and tabletop exercise capabilities. This role is primarily coordination‑focused, supporting both real-time incident activity and proactive preparedness initiatives.

Ideal candidates bring a mix of technical cybersecurity experience, strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and comfort coordinating large, cross-functional groups. This position offers meaningful involvement in incident response without requiring overnight on-call responsibilities.

    Key Responsibilities1. Incident Response Coordination

+ Coordinate real cybersecurity incidents and manage internal response activities.

+ Schedule, facilitate, and document incident check-ins.

+ Track action items, timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder responsibilities.

+ Maintain clear communication across technical teams, leadership, and business units.

+ Ensure consistent documentation throughout the incident lifecycle (notes, timelines, decisions).

+ Support incident response tools, communication channels, and workflow systems.

    Preferred experience indicators:

+ Experience working with business units and corporate communications (beyond HR or Legal), demonstrating exposure to large-scale incidents.

    + Not seeking a SOC-only background—this role supports enterprise-wide incident activity.

    2. Cybersecurity Tabletop Exercise Leadership

+ Plan, schedule, and facilitate cybersecurity tabletop exercises across technical and business teams.

+ Coordinate internal stakeholders, resources, and deliverables.

+ Partner with external third‑party vendors and facilitators when needed.

+ Develop agendas, scenarios, pre‑reads, and supporting materials.

+ Produce after‑action reports, document lessons learned, and track follow-up items.

    3. Technical Cybersecurity Expertise

+ Use hands-on cybersecurity knowledge to help design realistic and cohesive tabletop exercise scenarios.

+ Understand key technical components to craft meaningful and accurate exercise narratives.

+ Not looking for candidates whose experience is limited to SOC alert handling.

    4. Organizational & Communication Skills

+ Navigate multiple moving parts across simultaneous initiatives.

+ Maintain strong attention to detail and structured coordination practices.

+ Support high‑visibility incident and exercise efforts with clarity and precision.

    Work Environment & Program Goals

+ The organization historically conducted one tabletop exercise per year; the target is now 3–4 per year.

+ Large-scale incidents currently lack a dedicated coordinator—this role establishes structured facilitation.

+ Long-term plans include building an in‑house tabletop design team rather than relying solely on external vendors.

    Interview Process

    + Interview with hiring manager

+ Follow-up interview with manager and team members

    Employee Value Proposition (EVP)

This position provides meaningful involvement in high‑impact security events and preparedness initiatives—without the typical 24/7 on-call burden common in many incident response roles.
