    About the Role

    Amergis Educational Staffing is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments across three school campuses. This educator will work with elementary, middle, and high school students, ensuring they receive equitable access to curriculum, tools, and learning opportunities.

     

    The ideal candidate will be skilled in braille literacy, able to both read and write braille, and comfortable teaching braille to students of varying ages and skill levels. The district provides a braille-writing machine for instructional use.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Provide direct instruction in braille reading and writing, utilizing a braillewriter and other adaptive tools.

    + Develop and implement individualized instructional plans aligned with each student’s IEP.

    + Teach students effective use of assistive technologies and tactile learning materials.

    + Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications.

    + Conduct assessments related to functional vision and learning media.

    + Travel between three school sites to deliver consistent, high-quality support to students from elementary through high school levels.

    + Maintain documentation, progress notes, and compliance-related reporting.

    + Participate in IEP meetings, team planning, and ongoing professional development.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    + Valid Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) certification (state-specific credential accepted).

    + Proficiency in braille reading, writing, and instruction.

    + Experience using braillewriters and adaptive instructional equipment.

    + Prior experience working with K–12 students with visual impairments (preferred).

    + Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

    + Ability to travel between multiple school locations.

    The Teacher for the Visually Impaired provides students with appropriate learning experiences and activities designed to help them in social, intellectual, and emotional growth. The Teacher for the Visually Impaired organizes and implements an instructional program for visually impaired students.

     

    Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function in a successful and positive manner.

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred

    + Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations

    + One year experience as a teacher for the visually impaired preferred

    + Current CPR if applicable

    + TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

    + Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

    + Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

    + Must be at least 18 years of age
