On - Call Substitute Behavior Technician – San Mateo, CA, $20–$22 per hour

We are currently seeking flexible, dependable, and compassionate On - Call Substitute Behavior Technicians to join our substitute support pool in San Jose, California . This role is ideal for candidates who thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy supporting students with diverse needs across multiple school sites.

As a substitute BT, you will be contacted for daily, weekly, or short-term assignments based on school needs. These placements may include general classroom support or 1:1 support for a student with an IEP/BIP , serving students ranging from Kindergarten through 12th grade .

Key Responsibilities

+ Provide 1:1 behavior support or classroom-wide support depending on daily assignment needs

+ Assist students with disabilities and special needs in meeting academic, behavioral, and social goals

+ Implement redirection strategies, reinforcement systems, and behavior plans as provided by school staff

+ Follow teacher and school instructions to support classroom routines and maintain safety

+ Support students requiring toileting assistance, diaper changing, hygiene support , and other personal care needs

+ Adapt quickly to new environments, staff, grade levels, and student needs

+ Foster a patient, positive, and inclusive atmosphere for all learners

+ Participate in required training and maintain professionalism across campuses

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience working with students with disabilities or special needs (any school or clinical setting)

+ Ability to respond calmly and confidently to a range of behaviors

+ Comfortability providing personal care, toileting, and hygiene support

+ Flexibility to accept same-day calls or short-notice assignments

+ Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn

+ Reliable transportation to travel between school sites within the district

Position Details

+ Location: San Jose, CA

+ Schedule: On-call, as-needed; flexible daily assignments based on school requests

+ Pay Rate: $20–$22 per hour

+ Grade Levels: K–12

+ Assignment Types: General classroom support or 1:1 student support

The Behavior Technician works to facilitate educational and behavioral services with children and adults with special needs and collaborates with school professionals and other behavioral specialists to achieve learning and behavioral goals and objectives.

Minimum Requirements:

+ High School diploma or equivalent required

+ Two (2) years of pediatric experience preferred

+ Current CPR if applicable

+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

+ Must be at least 18 years of age
