    In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program.     This Internship is for Summer 2026 starting in May 2026.

     

    You will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Louisville, KY facility, which provides support to one or more areas of such as naval gun support or submarine components. Relocation will NOT be offered and housing is not provided.

     

    Mechanical Engineering Intern will provide Engineering Production Support (EPS) for multiple weapon system programs. This individual will work with experienced engineers to help serve as an interface between design and production engineering for analyzing and solving problems related to the design and fabrication of mechanical subsystems, assemblies, and components.

    As a Mechanical Engineering Intern:

    + Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements.

    + Work with production support to create Problem Reports detailing engineering related issues with items in production,

    + Communicate and Collaborate with EPS, Integrated Program Teams (IPT) and Program members to drive issues to closure.

    + Assist in assigned special projects and/or process improvement teams to improve work effectiveness and relationships between Design and Production (e.g.: improve Configuration Management of TDP and Re-man Drawings, develop and implement design change work flow processes within configuration management and engineering data management systems).

    + Use CAD tools and basic measure equipment to define current characteristics that will enable timely solutions to production issues.

    + Daily coordination with onsite Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.

    + Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety objectives, policies, and rules.

    Required Education, Experience, & Skills

    + Currently pursing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related degree from an ABET accredited college or university.

    + Completion of at least 2 years of engineering studies at the college level.

    + Strong organizational skills and proven ability to coordinate multiple priorities to achieve a deliverable deadline.

    + Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.

    + Ability to solve basic technical design and development problems.

    + Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

    Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

    + Experience supporting engineering in a production environment where weldments, fabrication of machined parts, and assembly, integration, and testing of subsystems on equipment is performed.

    + Familiarity with PTC CREO CAD software package.

    + Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing ASME Y14.5-2009.

     

    Pay Information

     

    Full-Time Salary Range: $46437 - $62721

     

    Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

     

    Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20 hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
