Job Description
We are actively seeking a Senior Vessel Infrastructure Engineer with hands-on experience in refreshing and modernizing vessel infrastructure. Our client operates 20+ vessels that require a full technology upgrade. The ideal candidate will have end-to-end experience—from vendor selection and product evaluation, to proof of concept, all the way through hardware installation and final deployment aboard vessels.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in complex, non-traditional environments and can independently deliver infrastructure solutions in shipboard conditions.
Job Description
As a Senior Vessel Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead the design, deployment, and modernization of IT systems across vessels, ports, and shipboard environments for a global navigation technology company. This role is both strategic and highly hands-on, requiring a technologist capable of executing full lifecycle infrastructure upgrades in challenging maritime environments.
Key Responsibilities
Architect, deploy, and support shipboard and port infrastructure including ruggedized servers, networking gear, and hybrid cloud platforms
Lead modernization initiatives across 20+ vessels, ensuring reliability, automation, and secure ship-to-shore connectivity
Plan and execute shipboard data center builds (power, cooling, physical security, hardware requirements)
Automate provisioning and configuration using Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet
Administer Linux and Windows Server environments across vessels and port facilities
Manage core network services (DNS, DHCP, IPAM) and collaborate on routing, switching, firewall architectures
Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and root-cause analysis
Create SOPs, runbooks, and documentation for vessel and port deployments
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
Travel as needed for onboard deployments and upgrade projects
Ideal Candidate Profile
Highly technical, self-driven, and capable of end-to-end delivery
Comfortable working aboard vessels, including racking, cabling, and configuring equipment in shipboard conditions
Deep experience with Cisco UCS/HX, Nutanix HCI, VMware (vSphere/vSAN), and ruggedized maritime hardware
Strong communicator who excels in cross-functional environments
A modernization-focused engineer who balances strategic vision with hands-on execution

Skills and Requirements
7+ years in infrastructure engineering or maritime IT operations
Direct experience refreshing / upgrading IT infrastructure on vessels
Hands-on expertise with Cisco UCS/HX, Nutanix HCI, VMware vSphere, Cohesity
Strong Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration
Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Puppet
Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls
Scripting experience (Bash, PowerShell, Python)
Proven success leading complex projects independently
Experience building shipboard server rooms or port-based data centers
Understanding of power, cooling, ruggedized hardware, and physical security in maritime environments TWIC Card
Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, or related field
Certifications: VCP, RHCE, Nutanix NCP, CCNP, AWS/Azure Associate
Familiarity with ITIL, SolarWinds, Prometheus, Grafana
Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Hybrid environments with strong AWS presence
Prior maritime, vessel, or port experience
Open to relocation for full-time conversion
