Job Description
Insight Global is looking for a Principal Software Engineer (EDA) that will be working on site in Austin, TX and support a public-private partnership of preeminent semiconductor systems and defense electronics companies, national labs, and academic institutions. Their mission is to advance the state-of-the-art in critical semiconductor domains such as advanced packaging, and in the process to help restore U.S. leadership in semiconductor manufacturing. They are developing cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes that will define future roadmaps of semiconductor logic, memory, heterogenous integration, chip cooling, etc. They are Backed by $1.4 billion in combined funding from DARPA, Texas state initiatives, and strategic partners, they are building foundational capabilities in advanced packaging and integrated design infrastructure to restore U.S. leadership in microelectronics manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
Lead EDA development & automation:
Architect, build, and maintain custom EDA tooling and automation for advanced packaging, 2.5D/3DHI, chiplet integration, and assembly planning (e.g., layout utilities, rules checking, packaging DRC/LVS, parasitic modeling, interposer/RDL flows).
Create robust glue code, APIs, and libraries (Python, TCL, C/C++, Shell) to integrate commercial EDA platforms (Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens EDA) with internal datasets, PDKs/techfiles, and CI/CD pipelines.
Own release engineering for design flows: versioning, artifacting, reproducibility, and documentation.
Own Linux systems administration for EDA/HPC:
Administer and harden multi‑tenant Linux environments (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu), HPC schedulers (LSF/SLURM), and license servers (FlexLM/RLM).
Manage storage and data services for large EDA workloads (NFS/SMB, object storage), backups, and disaster recovery.
Implement monitoring/observability (Prometheus/Grafana/ELK), user/resource governance, and security baselines (CIS, MFA/SSO, RBAC).
Jira/Confluence platform ownership:
Serve as Jira admin for engineering: model projects, workflows, custom fields, permissions, and automation (ScriptRunner/Automation for Jira).
Integrate Jira with Git/GitLab/Bitbucket, CI/CD, and alerting; design dashboards and metrics for throughput, cycle time, and release quality.
Enable Confluence knowledge architecture for design standards, runbooks, and equipment procedures.
Motion control & equipment software integration:
Develop control and integration software for motion stages, robotics, and semiconductor tools (C/C++/Python; real‑time where needed).
Interface with PLCs/industrial protocols (TwinCAT/Beckhoff, Siemens TIA, Allen‑Bradley; EtherCAT, Modbus/TCP, OPC UA, SECS/GEM).
Integrate machine vision (OpenCV/industrial cameras) and data acquisition; connect to MES/SCADA where applicable.
IT engineering & DevOps enablement:
Implement and support identity/access (AD/LDAP, SAML/OAuth), virtualization (VMware/KVM), containers (Docker/Podman), and optionally Kubernetes.
Build CI/CD for EDA scripts and equipment code (GitLab CI/Jenkins), plus IaC for repeatable infrastructure (Ansible/Terraform).
Partner cross‑functionally with process, equipment, reliability, and IT/security teams; mentor engineers and set engineering best practices.

Skills and Requirements
5+ years total software experience, including 5+ years in EDA/CAD automation or semiconductor software environments
Strong programming in Python, C/C++, Shell, and TCL; solid software design, testing, and documentation practices.
Hands‑on with Cadence/Synopsys/Siemens EDA tool ecosystems and PDK/techfile management; familiarity with packaging DRC/LVS and assembly‑level verification.
Proven Linux systems administration for EDA: compute/storage, schedulers (LSF/SLURM), and license servers (FlexLM/RLM).
Jira/Confluence administration (3+ years): workflow design, JQL, permissions, automation, and integrations.
Motion control/industrial integration experience (e.g., TwinCAT/EtherCAT, PLCs, SECS/GEM, machine vision) in a lab or pilot‑line setting.
DevOps & infrastructure: Git/GitLab, CI/CD, Ansible/Terraform, containerization, observability, and security best practices.
Excellent cross‑disciplinary communication; can translate between EDA, equipment, IT/security, and operations. advanced packaging/3DHI experience
