    The Director of Protective Services/Deputy Chief provides strategic and operational leadership for system-wide protective services, ensuring a safe and secure environment across all Novant Health facilities. This role sets performance expectations, coaches and develops team members, and builds strong partnerships with internal leaders and community agencies such as law enforcement and emergency services. The position plays a key role in advancing security and safety programs by developing policies, procedures, and training standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, and identifying opportunities to enhance value and effectiveness. Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, this leader also supports crisis response efforts and contributes to system-wide program development in partnership with executive leadership.

     

    What You'll Do

     

    + Provide on-going leadership, coaching and feedback to team members.

    + Set performance expectations and goals within the parameters of each team member’s job description, appropriate to the team member; identifies and oversees appropriate developmental opportunities.

    + Establish strategic relationships with leaders throughout the system.

    + Actively participate in appropriate leadership meetings, developing strategic recommendations to help improve system security and safety program.

    + Continuously identify and recommend new opportunities to provide additional value to the system in a manner that is consistent with the systems goals and objectives.

    + Maintain compliance with all healthcare safety and security based regulatory standards. This includes but is not limited to Joint Commission, DNV certification, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, state/federal rules and requirements.

    + Develop and maintain partnerships with community partners (e.g. Law Enforcement, EMS).

    + Develop and update the Protective Services documentation program. This includes, but is not limited to policies, procedures and training documents.

    + Work with Senior Vice President of Protective Services on the program development. Serve as a lead resource to senior management in the event of a crisis affecting any medical center locations, personnel or the Novant Health brand.

     

    What We're Looking For

     

    + Education:

    + Bachelor's degree in related field, required.

    + Master's degree in related field, preferred.

    + Licensure/Certification:

    + Valid NC or SC Driver’s License

    + International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety Certification (IAHSS) Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) required within 3 years of hire

    + Experience:

    + Minimum five (5) years of security management or law enforcement experience.

    + Additional skills, required:

    + Knowledgeable of city, county, state and federal laws and ordinances, taking appropriate actions in compliance with these laws and ordinances. Liaison with local and state law enforcement agencies and other related external agencies.
