Position Objective
This engineer will support or lead equipment upgrades, repairs and continuous improvement activities for the Vision Care Process Engineering Department. This engineer will be focused on the controls systems and automated equipment used by the group. This engineer will also design, develop, implement and support integrated, state-of-the-art equipment and control systems used in the development of new medical device manufacturing platforms, products and cost improvements.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and controls/systems engineering automation development of engineering projects. Manage and execute projects in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, cross-functional team environment. Provide controls and machine vision systems support to the Vision Care Process Engineering Labs, including metrology, shop floor information systems, equipment, and maintenance support.Develop and implement new technologies, controls and vision systems to improve cost and quality of existing strategic medical device products. Facilitate internal resources and outside vendors in developing technical solutions for primary and secondary automated equipment. Interface with equipment vendors to ensure successful machine delivery, integration and manufacturing validation. Develop and manage project schedules/detailed work plans in order to meet overall program goals. Communicate status of project activities on a regular basis.
Support product, platform, and cost improvement programs by delivering qualified machine controls and PLC/SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) software. Interface with SQA, QA and Process Engineering to successfully validate software systems. Author and execute software test scripts.
Requirements
BS in Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, Computer Systems Engineering, or other similar technology degree, or equivalent training and experience.
Must have 10+ years' experience with development, integration and project management of automated control systems including PLC's, motion control, robotics, vision systems, HMI's and SCADA control systems software.
Very thorough knowledge of the following:
PLC Hardware and Programming. This includes Allen Bradley and Modicon PLC's
HMI programming including Allen Bradley RSVIEW and ICONICS
Reading and understanding P&ID drawings
Electrical Hardware design
Electrical Schematic Design using AUTOCAD
Safety circuit design and integration
Safety risk assessments
Motor controls with VFDs
PLC Network communications (Ethernet IP)
Robots including 6-axis and SCARA
Barcode Scanners and vision systems
Ability to troubleshoot automated systems is required
Ability to repair automated systems is required
Experience with equipment builds in a medical device manufacturing setting is a plus.
Experience working in a cGMP and FDA regulated environment is a plus
Special Skills: CAD experience desired.
Specialized Training: NFPA-79, GAMP 4/5, 21 CFR Part 11

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting pay for this role is between $90,000.00 and $135,000.00. The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors.
