The Category Team Leader, Procurement Director of Biochemicals / Chemicals is responsible for spend performance on $1 billion in direct material spend. Through your leadership skills, expert knowledge of procurement and experience in chemicals and biochemicals supply chain, the successful candidate will drive improvements in cost, quality, delivery, risk, sustainability and supplier relationship management across Danaher’s operating companies.

This position reports to the Vice President of Global Sourcing & Category Management for direct materials and is part of Danaher’s corporate procurement team. The role will be fully remote, though ideally located near a Danaher operating company site, and require travel of up to 40% to Danaher and supplier sites.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

+ Strategic Category Leadership: Proven ability to define and execute global category strategies for chemicals/biochemicals, delivering cost reduction, quality, delivery, and risk‑mitigation outcomes across large, complex spend (≈$1B).

+ Supplier Management & Negotiation Excellence: Expertise in evaluating suppliers, leading competitive events (RFIs/RFPs/auctions), negotiating agreements, driving preferred‑supplier adoption, and managing supplier performance to meet operating company needs.

+ Advanced Analytical & Business Skills: Strong competency in spend analysis, market intelligence, financial analysis, budget/price guidance, and tracking/reporting savings against annual objectives.

+ Cross‑Functional Leadership & Influence: Ability to lead without direct authority—guiding operating company category leaders, integrating new acquisitions, training teams on sourcing tools/processes, and influencing senior stakeholders.

+ Continuous Improvement & DBS (Lean) Mindset: Demonstrated experience using structured continuous‑improvement tools (e.g., Lean, Kaizen, DBS) to improve cost, quality, delivery, inventory, cash, and process standardization across a global organization.

The essential requirements of the job include:

+ Minimum of Bachelor degree in Supply Chain, Chemistry, Engineering, Business, or a related technical discipline; an MBA or advanced and related engineering degree is ideal.

+ 10+ years of functional procurement experience in chemicals, biochemicals, or specialty chemicals categories, including strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management.

+ 5+ years of leadership experience managing category strategies or leading cross‑functional sourcing teams in a global environment.

+ Demonstrated expertise in large‑scale negotiations and contract management, including running RFIs, RFPs, and competitive bidding events (e.g., auctions).

+ Proficiency in spend analytics and cost‑reduction methodologies, including the use of Lean/DBS or similar continuous‑improvement tools to deliver measurable savings, quality, and delivery improvements.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

+ Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 30%, including domestic and international trips as business needs require.

+ Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) if operating a vehicle for business purposes is required.

+ Physical / Environment Requirements: Ability to work in a home/office environment with extended periods of computer use. Ability to access manufacturing or laboratory environments, including wearing required PPE (e.g., safety glasses, lab coat, closed‑toe shoes). Ability to stand, walk, or move through production or supplier facilities as required for audits, supplier assessments, or Kaizen events.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

+ Global sourcing within the life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical sectors, specifically involving high‑purity biochemicals, specialty chemicals, or regulated raw materials and have existing senior executive relationships with representative suppliers

+ Leading multi‑OpCo or multi‑region sourcing strategies through influence, including global consolidation, harmonization of category strategies, and leveraged negotiations.

+ Managing procurement activities in regulated chemical environments, including compliance with REACH, TSCA, PFAS‑elimination programs, or other relevant chemical‑regulatory frameworks.
