    Job Description

    NYC Parks is the steward of more 30,000 acres of land – 14 percent of New York City – including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 public pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses and 14 miles of beaches. We care for 1,200 monuments and 23 historic house museums. We look after 666,000 street trees and five million more in parks. We are New York City’s principal providers of recreational and athletic facilities and programs. We are home to free concerts, world-class sports events and cultural festivals.

    Major Responsibilities

    As the Chief of Staff, you will coordinate and monitor high-priority initiatives and Agency decisions and provide guidance to divisions on program implementation. The Chief of Staff will also serve as an advisor to the Commissioner on how best to achieve strategic agency goals and coordinate interagency activities on the Commissioner’s behalf. In addition, the Chief of Staff will maintain liaisons with non-profit partners and with other city and state agencies.

    Duties will include but not be limited to:

    - Act as an adviser to the Commissioner and senior leadership team and represent the Commissioner in agency meetings, and external meetings with community partners and other key stakeholders.

     

    - Advise the Commissioner on agency strategy and policy issues.

     

    - Troubleshoot, participate in crisis management, ensure clear communication across the agency and manage expectations of agency leadership, and external partners.

     

    - Ensure that the decisions and policies of the Commissioner are implemented and executed across various divisions and programs within the agency.

     

    - Prioritize, coordinate and develop agendas and ensure effective follow-ups for internal and external meetings, including meetings with agency leadership, City Hall meetings and quarterly interagency meetings.

     

    - Convene and direct inter-divisional groups to address problems and pursue initiatives that cut across divisional responsibilities.

     

    - Liaise with external partners including the Mayor’s Office, other City and State agencies, community organizations, and private sector partners.

     

    - Develop policies, protocols and standards on programmatic and administrative matters to improve efficiency and strengthen agency capacity.

     

    - Draft briefings for the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and the Commissioner.

     

    - Assist in the recruitment and hiring of key agency leadership positions.

     

    - Supervise and provide overall direction to staff in the Office of the Commissioner, including scheduling, correspondence and advance.

    Salary Min: $150,000.00
