McCue is seeking an AI Engineer to join our Innovation team. This role will focus on developing the intelligence that enables multiple safety-focused projects to accurately and reliably interpret visual data as part of autonomous inspection systems.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, highly technical, and eager to work hands-on across AI model development, dataset creation, system integration, and prototype validation.
This role blends applied AI development, robotics perception, and systems-level thinking. It offers a rare opportunity to help build something entirely new within a proven, growing company.
This is a builder’s role, hands-on, high-ownership, and central to shaping the future of intelligent safety.
Responsibilities:
+ Lead and maintain the development of the AI and perception architecture for different projects
+ Collaborate cross-functionally with robotics, mechanical, and software engineers to define system requirements
+ Build an internal knowledge base around AI and machine learning
+ Ensure all AI models and datasets meet quality, compliance, and data security standards
+ Play a leadership role in shaping future hiring, partnerships, and technology roadmap for different projects
Key Activities:
+ Design, train, and evaluate computer vision models (e.g., YOLOv8, object detection, segmentation, classification) for industrial inspection tasks.
+ Define and manage datasets, including data organization, annotation standards, augmentation strategies, and quality checks.
+ Work with labeling tools and workflows such as Roboflow, CVAT, or similar platforms.
+ Optimize models for edge deployment using tools such as ONNX and TensorRT.
+ Develop and maintain evaluation frameworks using real-world metrics (precision, recall, mAP) tied to operational outcomes.
+ Collaborate with robotics and systems engineers to ensure models integrate cleanly into perception pipelines.
+ Support the design of data storage, retraining loops, and model versioning practices.
+ Experiment with approaches to improve robustness across lighting conditions, camera angles, and facility variability.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or related field
+ 3–6 years of experience in AI, computer vision, or applied machine learning (industrial or robotics applications preferred)
+ Proven ability to train and deploy object detection or segmentation models on real-world datasets.
+ Experience optimizing models for deployment on edge devices (Jetson, ONNX, TensorRT preferred).
+ Solid Python programming skills; comfort working in Linux-based environments.
+ Experience working with labeled datasets and evaluating model performance in applied settings.
+ Comfortable operating in an early-stage, fast-moving environment with evolving requirements.
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Key Results:
+ Deliver robust AI models capable of real-time safety inspection and damage detection with high accuracy and reliability.
+ Build and maintain scalable AI data pipelines for training, validation, and continuous improvement.
+ Integrate perception algorithms effectively with robotic hardware and cloud systems, ensuring stable operation in real-world environments.
+ Document model architecture, datasets, and performance metrics to support repeatability and future scaling.
+ Contribute to a culture of applied innovation by delivering practical, measurable AI outcomes that move projects from concept to commercial reality
The salary range for this role is a base of $110,000 - $125,000/ year based on education, experience and geography.
