• Process Technician

    US Tech Solutions (Corning, NY)


    Duration: 6-month contract with possible extension

    Job Description:

    + The successful applicant will combine hands-on experience with scientific principles to provide technical support to engineers involved in testing, research, development, and manufacturing of materials such as glass, refractory, ceramics, metals, and polymers.

    + This position will focus on conducting analysis using optical methods and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) along with hands-on sample preparation in a laboratory environment.

    + Sample preparation of glass and refractory materials including cutting, mounting, epoxying, grinding, and polishing.

    + Analyze and image prepared samples using optical methods including stereomicroscopy and polarized light microscopy.

    + Conduct imaging and chemical analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX).

    + Prepare reports and data compilation for Geologists and Engineering staff.

    + Support maintenance of lab operations and supplies.

    Experience:

    + 2+ years of experience in a technician role or similar function.

    + Experience operating electron microscopes or microprobes OR Experience performing other analytical (quantitative or semi-quantitative) chemistry techniques.

    Skills:

    + Knowledge of safety systems and how they relate to machine work, furnace work, and material handling.

    + Ability to gather information independently using established and defined procedures and collaborate to obtain input to solve more complex problems.

    + Good written & oral communications skills.

    Education:

    AAS in Engineering Technology or related scientific field
