    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    General Statement of Duties: The Clinical Informatics Coordinator (CIC) is responsible for the facilitation and leadership of facility Clinical Informatics by leading the implementation of and providing ongoing support for corporate/division/facility projects related to clinical informatics, including: • standardization • utilization • integration • optimization The CIC is the critical facility resource responsible for supporting the implementation of and providing ongoing support for corporate/division/facility-wide standardization, utilization, integration, and optimization activities related to the electronic health record and other clinically related technologies. They are responsible for the coordination, support, and completion of project assessments, project advancements, workflow mapping, tools, and resources focused on Clinical Informatics initiatives, including but not limited to provider order entry and documentation, standard clinical documentation, promoting interoperability, and other technology that supports clinician workflow. The CIC will participate in the company-wide community of Informatics by working with the Director of Clinical Informatics and facility peers to ensure clinical applications are well supported.

    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Support Physician and Provider training of the EHR.

    2. Support facility-wide standardization, utilization, integration, and optimization activities related to the EHR and other clinical informatics initiatives.

    3. Audits and prepares reports of the electronic health record and clinical informatics-supported technology using tools for data collection and reporting.

    4. Support data quality management tasks to ensure integrity and quality of the dynamic medical record as it relates to provider orders and documentation

    5. Participates in the development of education resources focused on the EHR and other clinical quality informatics initiatives.

    6. Provide training and elbow support to Clinicians and Providers with new technology implementations that impact clinician workflow.

    7. Assesses impact on clinical workflow and facilitates workflow redesign to gain maximum benefit from new technology.

    8. Assists with the optimization of clinical informatics tools to drive regulatory compliance, standardization, and quality patient outcomes.

    9. Acts as a liaison to clinicians, physician-level providers, and HIM to collaborate for resolutions at the source of data quality issues.

    10. Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Informatics, Service Line Directors, and front-line staff on clinical initiatives to advance the Clinical Excellence scorecard.

    11. With direction and supervision, acts as subject matter specialist to assist in developing the appropriate strategies, plans, tools, and approaches to ensure successful implementation of clinical informatics workflows and tools.

    12. Assists with Evidence-Based Order set review, approval, build, and maintenance updates.

    13. Collaborates with the clinical and technical IT Team to support new EHR components to ensure the most efficient clinical workflow.

    14. Participates in Performance Improvement Activities related to Clinical Informatics.

    15. Assists with resolving functionality or technical issues and requests escalated from the facility requiring clinical informatics expertise.

    Primary Duties:

    1. Provides EHR training and functionality expertise to newly credentialed clinicians

    2. Provide input, updates, and communication on clinical informatics initiatives to medical staff, leadership, and clinicians.

    3. Assists in identifying gaps and opportunities in departmental process mapping of current and future workflows.

    4. Provide system and operations expertise for implementing processes & system changes.

    5. Provide Go-Live support (elbow support) for clinical informatics initiatives.

    6. Participate in systems training for the project team and serve as super user for clinicians.

    7. Design and develop education/training materials for clinical informatics initiatives to support staff training and continued education in collaboration with Nursing Education as needed. (crosses over to nursing education)

    8. Actively supports and promotes systems standardization, utilization, and best practices in clinical informatics.

    9. Adheres to the HCA Code of Conduct and Mission, Vision & Value Statement.

    10. Participates in special projects as needed and performs other duties as assigned.

    What qualifications you will need:

    Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

    1. Education: Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree nursing program

    2.Experience: 5 years of clinical nursing hospital experience.

    3. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable). Familiar in the use of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Meditech Magic, Meditech Expanse, and/or Medaxion experience is strongly preferred.

    Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations:

    1. Current TX RN license required.

    2. Nurse or Health Informatics Certification preferred.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: • Understand pertinent regulatory guidelines such as the Joint Commission, HIPAA, etc. • Demonstrated ability to establish and build strong relationships across a broad range of personality types. • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing with clinical and information technology personnel. • Demonstrated customer- focused service • Excellent teaching and communication skills
